AWESOME!! Beautiful guitar licks and vocal harmonies... brings me back to the days in the early 80's when I was actually in a pure Southern Rock act here in NY... We were doing, Allmans, Skynnard, Molly Hatchet, ZZ Top, etc... Lotsa fun... Lotsa heart! ...... and then I was drawn into the ole dark side known as ............HEAVY METAL!! gotta admit though, I have such good memories and a lot of fun playing that stuff on the axe.... taught me a lot!!

Sounds good, weve been dipping back into southern rock ourselves lately on the cover side.

On an original side I think its a dead horse, you need to move over to country. That audience eats up southern rock. Cause after all the new country stuff is southern rock with a little more twang or steel guitar.

I disagree that southern rock on the original side is a dead horse. The meteoric rise of southern rock's popularity came to a premature crash with The Plane Crash. I've always had this feeling that southern rock never really went out of style. I think there will be a rise in its popularity again that will be greater than ever before. Being a blues man myself I consider southern rock to be a kindred form of music. If you really listen to the boogie woogie piano and guitar leads in Skynyrd they're really very similar to blues. Certainly it's true that some of what is clssified as country today is really southern rock. I'm really anticipating an explosion of southern rock REAL SOON. It's truly an exceptional genre of music that requires some outstanding musicainship.

Charlie Daniels, Marshall Tucker, ZZ Top, Johnny & Edgar Winter, Rick Derringer, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Tom Petty (florida boy), Jimmy Buffett, Wet willie, Blackfoot, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Little Feat, Black Oak Arkansas, Elvin Bishop, Georgia Satellites, Outlaws...plus a couple of lesser knowns - Dixie Dregs, Grinderswitch, Rossington-Collins Band and I just noticed a band called Southern Mischief listen on the Southern Rock Society page. Hmmm...

I don't believe southern rock ever made it to its zenith partly because its flagship band (Skynyrd) was tragically broken up and partly because of other factors in the world of music at the time. I firmly believe you are going to see a huge revival of southern rock and a MUCH GREATER POPULARITY THAN IT EVER HAD BEFORE. Mark my words, I think it's inevitable. The musicianship is too good and it has too broad an appeal for it not to happen. Later...

good line up Pete! of course I'll have to eliminate a few o those for ya....ZZ top I would not consider Southern Rock, they are true Texas Rockers and really their own brand of southern. (we'll say a subdivision of southern) Johnny Winter is a pure Blues man and his brother is just a rocker not southern in the least. the Ozark Mountain Daredevils surely aren't ....but other than that, you nailed me! I saw the Dixie Dregs in Cincinnati with Rick Derringer and they were excellent. seen Black Oak Arkansas 3 times...not the best musicians but man what a show they put on.
the fact is in my opinion there are more southern rock fans now than there were in it's heyday! it's BIG sh*t in the not quite made it to the top class of bands. I'd guess there are more southern rock original bands in America than any other type, and that includes pop bands....

Texas Rock is southern rock my man. Subdivision ? Well maybe with the newer pop ZZ albums. But look into the roots. Southern Rock & Blues.
