currently I am working on a project .I have written a song it is somewhat political,I talk about war ,pollution and such things.I would like to make a music video,I want to take news footage off the enternet of the things that are in the song and put it with my music. (this is how I protest, plus I agree with what someone said in here about things going on in your life tend to get the creative juices flowing) ,anyways first ? is their footage copywritten can I use it in my video? 2nd ? what would be the best way to do it on the computer, what software or site ? any input would be welcomed ps im ilcomputerate ( took me forever just to write this with one finger  thx

Yes, it is copyrighted.
You'd need permission to use each clip, or you could be sued.
Take it from there.

I'm not sure about the copyrights of older stock footage, but I would take the stance that everything is copyright protected, & try to contact the owners of the footage you'd like to use. How to find them? Perhaps you need to contact some news agencies & ask. Make sure that any footage you get for free is accompanied by the proper paperwok to protect you from someone changing their mind about things, after they've allowed you to use it.

The software issues I'll leave to the ppl that know about such things.

Ask yourself a couple of things-

1. Are you at the point in your music career that shooting a video is warranted, appropriate?

2. Do you have enough of a following to reap rewards from it

3. Can you afford it?

The reason I ask is simply to suggest that you might want to just hire a production company to produce the video and handle the legalities of copyrighted images and footage. I'm sure there's reasonable prices to be found, but in the end, it won't be cheap. the DIY type videos can really bite you in the ass on many levels and do more harm than good to your career, assuming you have gained enough of a following to call it that.

Good luck.

If you use footage that is 20-25 years old, the copyright laws should expire.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, a song is worth a million.

after working over 60 hrs a week for the last ten yrs I am at a point in my life, where the children are gone and the work has slowed down.Im finally able to put some time into my music , I want to put out the best quality (sound wise ) music that I can,I want people to listen to it but this is for me mostly and if it takes off great if not oh well, IM happy playing out 2to3 times a week I love people dancing to our music,I like when we start playing and people stop what they are doing to listen to us ,they always underestimate us because were a three piece band and we use electric drums, anyways I think you may be right ill pay someone to do it but I think I might post the words here and let you all tell me what you think ( its all copyrighted ) :? what the heck am I ranting about :?:

I had a brainstorm about making music videos for our band. I would have four or five of the HOTTEST NEARLY NAKED WOMEN you ever saw simply dancing to our tune. I would use the exact same video for every one of our tunes, just speed up or slow down the video depending on the tempo of our tune. Once we produce the video we would never have to produce another one, save us a bunch of money. Then if our tunes get played on MTV or VH1 everyone would know and watch it every time. On all of our CD's I'd have a still picture from the video. I always have believed in consistency in marketing, don't you? Later...

go to the library and scan through some news articules that are in the paper and make them your own by date and by point of view you know what you want so let that apply here . the news is free to all there should not be a copyrite infringement. but please research for your self.
