Hey Gang,

Oh , its just me again with my weekly computer woes Im on the spare now...Just wonderin if anyone knows how to get past the stage of "NTLDR is missing" on boot up...Cool Edit was given me probs so I un installed it ,,When I tried to re-install it it really pitched a bitch, and started makin that knockin noise again so I had to shut it down..Now , when tryin to boot , It says NTLDR is missing and wont do anything else no matter what I push..Tried unplugging, reset etc..Keeps comin up the same...Its done this before, BUT some how fixed itself???..If anyone even knows what NTLDR even stands for please let me know..Im runnin win 2000...Thanks,

NLTDR is a reference to the hard drive. The computer is trying to tell you that for some reason, it cannot find one to boot from. There are several viruses that can cause the problem, as well as hardware failures, invalid boot partitions, etc...

You need to get a diagnostic boot disk to get the machine up and running to even address the problem. If that's too much, I'd recommend taking into the geek squad at best buy. I'd also advise that if you have, or had any porn on your machine, that you remove the hard disk altogether before taking it to an outside source for repair. Tell em to just put in a new hard drive and make sure to take your recovery disk in with it.

You can also try inserting the recovery CD into the PC and boot up and hope it's able to recognize it and repair the damaged file(s).

The reason I mention the porn, is that they are bound by company policy to report ANY porn, legal or not, to the FBI and you would automatically end up on homeland security reports, no-fly lists, etc... Part of the "new world" citizen cataloging and criminialization policies of the US government.

Man ,it never ends....Ive been trouble shootin all day...I got a new symptom discovery...NOW, Ive discovered that just playin a CD or a file, like a mixdown MP3, skips and pops.Cool edit doesnt even have to be involved....Yeah , when I bring up another window or minimize a window , it gets real bad..If I do it real fast like minimize, maximize it hangs, skips and pops???.Like its taxing the puter too much to play by doing that???..Yeah , when I try to load anything into cool edit , its real slow to load THEN of course , it skips and pops , and plays too slow...Boys Im down...Cant record, make lessons for my students, well I can , Ill have to go back to cassette multitrack which They''re DREADING.. ..I checked the sound card drivers and they're fine..Both C and D HD's check out fine when I run the CHKDSK...When the audio is actin up , the CPU drain is still only like 5-8% so I dont think its RAM related???..Could this audio prob still be related to the HD drives?..I think Im the only one on the planet thats had these kinda of probs with this thing???...Yeah , Kramer thanks much for the tip..Ive not had anything to what I would call "porn" BUT, everyones def is different .. ...If anyone has any audio trouble shootin tips, please inform me what to do next ...Just to recap here, everytimes this thing boots, its been a different senerio???...Ive had the "disk failure" AND that "NTLHD is missing" this morning BUT, it booted OK a few hrs ago but now has the audio skip , hang , too slow, and wont run cool edit at all without major skips, too slow, pops etc...AND wont play a CD , audio file with out skippin, poppin if I move pages around...Any info regarding the prob would be appreciated.

Hey John, NTLDR (acronym for new technology loader) is a program on your hard drive designated to the initial booting process, you may have to reformat your hard drive with the back up disk which came with the computer when you purchased it, before you do reformat make sure you back up files that you want to keep, reformatting sets your hard drive to its original state all the files saved by you will be lost.

What happened? (How NTLDR works and why your PC can't find it)
When your computer starts, the BIOS (Basic input output system)attempts to find the primary hard drive's active partition to read the first sector for the MBR (Master Boot Record), it uses that info to load the rest of the OS (operating system). For Windows NT4/2k/XP the MBR is pointed to the NTLDR (New Technology Loader) and it takes it from there. If you get the "NTLDR is missing, press any key to restart" what's most likely going on is the BIOS either didn't look for the right drive, didn't find the right partition, it wasn't active, didn't find the MBR, or the MBR didn't list NTLDR in the right place, the location of NTLDR changed, or you are looking at a hardware failure situation (memory/cables/drive/motherboard/etc).

Thanks for the info, the insanity just keeps mounting....This new "sound" audio prob has really got me baffled??. Could these HD probs be cuasing the audio glitches in playing CDs, Mp3s and Cool Edit loading and playing slow?..

Yeah , I just saw you on the "heres your sign" show where you were runnin to dive into those beer cans, became airborne, and fell short hitting the gravel.. Jesus Sans, I wonder about you man I wonder what you REALLY do at that hospital ..Id say you have access to many "cabinets"... ...Hell, this computer was givin to me so I really dont know what all is on here..Im warmin up the barrel on the MAK 90 for this Bit&%. Wish I had a 75rd drum... My probs are so everchanging I think Im beyond the help of the geek squad..Just about the time I post of 1 prob , thats old news cause something else will have been added..Im just about ready to put out a nationwide APB out for going back on the road...If I wasnt so broke, Id go out and get another HD , but gotta try to keep this one runnin if possible...

Jesus, Yesterday..Hmmphhh....****!!!....What a day!!!.What day is it?..I ran both these computers through all the spybot testing...I had about 250 of RED alerts to fix on this thing , 25 on the other...There are 3 bugs it wont get rid of ..It says something about their unreachable and will get them on re-boot but when I re-booted , it gave me no way of fixing them??Just says HEY DUDE , ya still got 3 probs..LOL..OH , you'll getta kick outta this, I down loaded that Firefox web browser..In doing so, I thought ya had to get rid of explorer..SO, I go in and kill explorer.6 and it takes me back to default.. THEN this thing pitched a REAL *****..I thought a new browser would maybe make youtube run better..It pauses intermittently on THIS computer (makes it a B to jam ..LOL)BUT not the other..(Prolly due to ONE of those # probs spybot cant fix..LOL)..YEAH , then I discover, I lost all my passwords and all my FAVs and tool bars were all messed up..LOL..Go ahead Laugh damnit...When I put 6 back in, SHE calmed down..Yeah , I think yall are right in just re formatting the HDs and re loading windows only this time I think Ill try XP instead of 2000 so I can get explorer 7..That Modzilla is hard to understand??...Yeah , This poor things been on for 3 days...Im afraid to shut it down..LOL..I marvel at it when it loads windows after Ive HAD to let it re load windows and clap and cheer when its done..LOLIm recording my ass off thinkin this might be the LAST DAY Ill getted do this...LOL..Anyway, Yeah ,Malebornin69 I just might take ya up on your offer to help..I do have a buddy somewhat knowledgable BUT....LOL...I lost all my presets in Cool Edit anyway..****, all that hard work figuring out comp, FX, EQ, settings..IT AINT RIGHT.LOL...I cant belive Im not drinkin through any of this???...Having a gun held to my head and pancreatitis are a picnic compared to this..
