This is going to br the funniest post that I have ever posted, well to me anyway.

This week Ive been a volunteer for the Southern GIrls Of Rock Camp in Memphis TN. Why? Well my daughter is attending, and she said I should volunteer, and I did. What is this camp? Its for girls 9-17 to learn what its like to be a rock n roller. It goes all week and Im tired so I will post up a big writup later. FOr anyone interested go to The Commercial Appeal website in Memphis Tn. This is the local paper and today a reporter with a video camera came to one of the band rooms and took a bunch of video of one of the bands in there that Ive been asked to manage. Long story which I will fill in later.

The purpose of this post is my daughters band. Yesterday coming home she said the name of her group at the camp was Paint It Rock, which sounded cool. She has a bass player, drummer, guitarist and she sings. They are going to play Joan Jetts song I love Rock n Roll for a showcase sat night. Anyway today as I was coming home she tells me that her band decided to change its name. I said what is the name, She says Panic Attack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What The F***

My daughter is singing in a group called Panic Attack

Crip at least they didnt spell it the way you guys do. I dont know if you saw the post where I said that Panik Attack and AInt Yo Mama should do a double bill somewhere between Jersey and Memphis, but man this is weird.

Hey and please no boobie jokes as my daughter is only 11.

Dont sue us for copywrite infringement.

Anyway I thought this was funny and should be shared somewhere. When I get done with the camp I'll put up a post about the Southern Girls School Of Rock.

Paint It Rock is more original. Sounds like it went well.

I have mixed feelings about this.

On the one hand, it kinda offends me that you hafta make it "just for girls."

On the other, I can see why there's a need for it.

I'll have to cogitate on this awhile.

Cooooll 8) Uh-Oh... we gots competition...

On a serious note though... We actually did copywrite the name in all forms due to the fact one of my bassists and drummers left the band and were going to gig under the name "PanikAtack".... So we got hold of our lawyer and he gave us all the info we needed and we done did it last December!

I agree that all-girl bands are offensive, equally so as an all white or all black band would be. It excludes people based on what they were born as rather than their skill level. Some would say it's not a fair comparison, but really, it is the same. Just has perfume put on it to make it smell better. But that's just me, the angsty idealist...

(edit) oh, and how many of those same "all-girl" bandmembers would get all pissed if they were told they couldn't join a band because it was "men only" ? hmmm.

To Philby, Ive never been much of a teacher. But the person that was supposed to teach beginning bass didnt show up so I became the teacher. I guess what Ive learned is that music is not gender specific, and I wish that there was a camp for boys like this when I was growing up. If you remember our discusions on here about learning cover songs note for note, well after this week and hearing the creativity of the girls in interpreting cover songs, I guess I may have to change my position.

Crip, Panic Attack is on the bill for sat night, and they rock pretty good for 11 yr olds.

Kramer, this whole camp is about female impowerment and getting girls to come out of their shells and express theirselves musically. SOme of these girls would never do this if not for this camp. I dont really understand where you are coming from with your post so I'll just leave it alone.

A side note my band Aint Yo Mama has gotten a couple of gigs the last couple of days, one is one of those ultimate fighter competitions. Also this camp has given me enough new musical contacts that I can overlook it beinng a girl camp. Dont shut the door on something cause it doesnt fit your criteria for music. While you were at work today I was hanging around all day with girls and some really attractive young women instructors.

Im tired and need some rest so I'll leave you guys. In the morning we are bringing in all the bass effects pedals I can get my hands on and giving a demonstration to the bass students what a pedal or two can do for a bass.

Being a father of both girls and boys let me first say I think what you are doing is great. Kids need to have some outlet for all that energy.
And I'll bet the reason it's an all girls camp is to reduce the number and intensity of chapparones. Could you imagine trying to control a camp full of mixed sex musicians.
Good for you Dad!
