I'm so glad...

I'm so glad it's over. There we were at the "fair" & the 1st act went up. It was some modern neo-punk 3-piece that ran the gamut for onstage errors.
The guitar player unplugged himself 3 times, & was still too clueless to thread his cord through his guitar strap. The drummer lost his time completely in 3 songs & simply stopped until he could find the beat & start back up. Their vocals were grossly horrid, but I suppose that that's what they were going for. The bass guy was pretty good, for a beginner that just played the roots for the most part, but he never stopped & always stayed on beat. He held the band together like a good bassist should. I still love that youthful energy, though.
Of course since this was the 1st night, the audience consisted of the 1st act's parents & gf's for the most part. Well, the STICKMASTERS showed up to support me, & that was nice.
Then it was our turn. I lost the thing in the 1st song at one point - brain fart - it was in Breathe. I only lost one note, but it was a huge mistake. I laughed it off & kept going, of course (played F# instead of E - EW!!!!) The rest of the set was seamless, for me. Guitarist/flat singer guy lost it on about 4 songs, but me & Blinky, the drummer who looks like a short skinny cross between Sideshow Bob & Buddy Holly, kept him from wandering too far. It wasn't all that bad, really, but I'm glad the pressure is off. This was nice, in truth. I didn't hafta take an amp, even. Just took my axe & a song list & my lil cheat sheet. I sang it okay in spite of my fears, too. I really like that drummer. He kept the energy in that dreaded Jap song prefectly.
Funny thing is, the opening act for tomorrow called & cancelled, so they asked me to open as a solo tomorrow in the heat of the day. Wheee! Hey, it's money for nothin' as far as I can tell. It ain't like I've practiced or anything. I'll just go in with my acoustic & play & sing for 40 min or so & walk out with $150 in my pocket. Not bad for an old guy, huh? Well, I'm sure it'll wash me out. Solo gigs always do, no matter how short or long they are. I seem to put a helluva lot of effort into those things.
Now if I could only get that damned Turning Japanese out of my headbone! We just HAD to close with that, didn't we?
Next up is the twiddly guitar player & his friend, who's pretty good. Then next weekend I got that solo. Then I'm gonna try to swipe that guitar player from the band that I auditioned for last week, & get him into the Flamingo Road Band.
Damn I'm having fun!
The 5th of this month is my 25th anniversary with the old lady, so I'm gonna try to do something nice for her this weekend...maybe even take out the trash.
Next weekend the STICKS are gonna camp out at the drummer's pond & fish all night. Boy I'm looking forward to that trip.
Gee...I'm likin' life right now.
Hope all's well with you-uns.
