my keyboard player went to Louisville and he's a good vocalist. he said "none" of the good singer's (even the really good one's) didn't make the cut! it seemed like they were looking for mediocre country singer's. I suppose to show improvement each week.
so if your really good, don't bother w/this season.

Im sorry, but i cant idolize someone who cant play an instrument to the point that it melts.

American Idol, you are the biggest diapointment on TV, aside of the major news networks. You think that these half talented "vocalist" have what it takes? What about Victor Wooton? He's an idol, or Jimi, or Michael Batio.

You get nothing but a cold, heart freezing stare from me American Idol.

Let all not forget to thank american idol also for offering potential vocalists the opportunity to skip all the hard work, like building a band and a following from the ground up, playing in shithole bars, and developing some character along the way, and when 99.9% of them don't make it, they have no reason to try doing it the right way, because they were told they don't have what it takes...

So bands like mine have even less of a pool of decent singers to choose from, as they are all practicing blowing a microphone for the next season of american masturbation.

Oh, but isn't Clay Aikens DREAMY?!?!?!?!

Can't sit through a single episode!

I feel like Simon Cowell & wanna trash everybody after I see a commercial for it...so maybe it's best if I stay away from it.

the worst thing about american idol, is that none of these people would have passed the initial audition:

Janis Joplin
Sade
Robert Plant
Jim Morrison
James Hetfield
Pat Benetar
Stevie Nicks

You get the idea.

Come on people, American Idol isn't that bad really? Doesn't anybody like karaoke? Isn't it fun to sing other people's music? Doesn't that show your versatility as a singer? Doesn't that show how good your stage presence is? Don't you like seeing fresh, new faces, and hip new hairdos and fashionable new ways to dress? Don't you enjoy hearing the cutting -edge analysis by the judges? And the drama, oh the drama. It makes me sit on the edge of my chair, I literally can't wait for the announcement of who is going to Hollywood and who isn't. And then when they get closer to the finals, what excitement. This year's winner was from the Kansas City area. David Cook was on the local news reports almost daily. People around here were buzzing with excitement. This was almost as exciting as when Elvis was first becoming famous, nearly as exciting as the Beatle's playing Shea stadium, as electrifying as The Rolling Stones first American tour. American Idol is BIG, REALLY BIG. Idol is uncovering huge new talents. This is truly a PROFOUND revolution in music. FIfty years from now people will still be watching reruns of American Idol. Fantastic stuff really, I'm surprised you people can't stand American Idol. Later...

Vocals, as a whole, is an instrument. Hard to master and is all bout practice and control. Doesn't that sound like an instrument to you?

Some of the ppl who sang other writers' stuff - Sammy Davis, Jr., Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Nat King Cole, Janis Joplin, Whitney Houston, Ella Fitzgerald, Slim Whitman, Billie Holliday, Boxcar Willie, Jim Morrison, etc etc etc.

Now I can certainly understand if you don't like all or even any of those mentioned above, but they were all respectable acts at one point in their careers. None played instruments much, except Nat King Cole & Sammy Davis, Jr. who did play, & very well. Yeah, Elvis posed with a guitar a lot, but only knew a few chords.

I'm just saying that singers who only sing have just as much right to be called "musician" as anyone else, in my book, in spite of the strictest definition of the word. There is nothing wrong with being so good at your craft that you, as front man/woman, get to have the entire act called by your own name. And I'll also say that it's perfectly legitimate to sing other ppl's material, even if that's all you ever do.

Plus, it gave me the opportunity to put up a list that included Slim Whitman & Ella Fitzgerald, back to back. I doubt if that's ever been done before.

in all honesty andragon,

im the bands vocalist,
i got the part becuase I said I could sing dream theater and a7x stuff, when they tested me, they siad i was the only guy who could sing what i siad i could, and was actually good at it.

but an REAL instrument is something that not everyone has. everyone has a voice (some less then others) but a dedicated instrument player is a true gift.
