Weirdness

So somehow they found out I'm a musician at work and asked me to play at the company's BBQ Friday. Supposedly two other guys were supposed to accompany me and provide the PA. Well they cancelled of course so I had to get the PA together and do the gig myself. I tried to put together a set of mellow tunes that would allow people to talk and eat while I played. So I do my set and go to get something to eat - all the food was gone. All in all I worked my butt off but I did get quite a few nice compliments.

Jimmy,
A wise ol' musician once said to me,"when you play for free, some folks just don't value your musicianship".It seems that at times, his opinion holds true.

I would have enjoyed hearing you. (Although I probably would have ate too much chocolate cake  )

Next time, grab some food first, and take along some kind of recorder.

Sorry you missed the eats. But they were lucky to have someone as talented as you playing for free.

hell bro, I feel ya! just donated my time n talent's to a small "arts festival" and , well it was basically embarrasing. the photographer's and videographer's got me singing into a mic that was held on by big white twist tie's...lol...they stuck the music at the far end of the park (as far from the people attending the fest as possible) and said "there is one speaker and no mic stand"...I had more people stopped in the road and sidewalk (outside of the park) watching me than were in the park ...lol....fuk em n feed em bean's!

Jimmy,

Excuse me for straying off topic, but , You being an ol' Sabbath Devote, May I suggest that you check out Greenie's version of "War Pigs" with her new band, It's on the British board, and definitely worth a listen.

A few compliments is better than nothing I guess. Your next test is to see if any of your colleagues will come and watch you perform in a bar sometime, where you aren't background material :)

I love it best when ppl ask me to come to their party & ...oh, by the way...bring yer guitar!

Makes me wanna invite them to a garden party at my house..oh by the way...bring a shovel!

Ppl don't realize this is work for us. It may be work that we love, but still, it's work. They forget to feed us. They try to take advantage without even realizing that that's what they're doing.

It's up to us as individuals to keep them straight.

I'd have probably ordered out for a pizza right there at the little gathering to let them know that I was hungry, too!

I tell ppl that ask me to bring my axe to parties if it's appropriate to set up my tip jar, or if they expect to pay me. I get a lot of funny looks, but I think it gets the point across.

You are a no bull kinda guy Philby. I like your style bro. Tell it like it is.
Being a newbe to the scene its amazing how what you say rings true to me already. Hell it just makes sense. Why dont "they" see it the way "we" see it, I wonder?
