I was recording several of our new songs for ya,ll last Tuesday night. Had a great night myself with the new Gibson. Had a friend singing some back up on some of the older tunes. Bassist was in the groove. Ray popped a G string on the very first intro, played the rest with his acoustic through the pedal board into the PA. The diffence between his acoustic and my Les Paul was sounding really good. THEN, I notice the next day all two hours and thirty six minuets was on wav 44.1 kHz. Too long for my sd card. I didnt get one friggin note!

Sometimes ya just gotta laugh when stuff like that happens.
Yesterday I was adding some lead to a new bun in the oven and had already done 3 or 4 takes... but just wasnt getting quite what I wanted.
Didnt want to patch lead bits together this time around, so take 5...
felt good, in the pocket, going great, a couple of cool licks that jumped out
of my fingers that I didnt plan... just zoning out with my eyes closed, feeling it...
Got done and I hadn't hit the record button. For some reason just bumped playback.
I've been trying to not use any profanities lately, but man I think a sailor would have fainted if hed been within ear shot.
I laughed about it eventually.

Guys I must say I can relate, and I am sorry for your musical losses, as I have had mine as well.

I have learned that if I have a good riff to take it down immediately, I rush usually. Lol. Somehow I have gotten good enough to where as long as it is recorded I can play it again by ear, I usually do not forget.

Um, but yeah, lately with all the new recording it has been a nightmare. I will get this awesome riff and find I never hit record as well, or get this great solo going (Which is very rare for me) and once again, did not record, or accidentally delete it by double clicking "Stop" in Guitar Rig.

It drives me insane, Lol. I find that you just have to be very precise and make sure you get it recorded. I cannot tell you how many riffs I have written that I will remember the notes but forget the timing/rhythm on, that is another reason I keep the recorder handy in Guitar Rig.

A good example is a new song I am working on, I am using arpeggios, letting those notes flow, ring out, but there is awkward timing to each part of the song. I have not figured out it's exact timing in music standards, but in my head it is like going from 4/4 to 6/8. That is what I meant by my new stuff is more complex than my old.

Anyhow, I like this topic, Lol. Mainly because I think we have all faced "Musical crises" before.

Most of the time it's as smooth as possible.. but sometimes it's a pain in the A to the double S (see? anyone can be gangsta)
It tells me "File blahblah was lost" .. I'm like "How?? It's not like I deleted anything; I stopped doing that a while ago =P "

I feel better just getting offmy chest. That kind of stuff usually dont set me off. But for some reason loosing that set. Well life moves on.

Finally got together with the ol' drunk guitarist & the rest of the band lst night. We went to the new drummer's house, & he was recording so he could learn the tunes after we left. He missed the record button about 3 times & we had to redo the stuff.

Grr.

Shoulda practiced more, but the drunk guy has a new gf & hd to leave pretty early. He's looking more & more replaceable by the second - now if only I could find a frikken replacement!

Gee you'd think a new poon would help him get his act together. I always did better for myself when there was a woman involved.

can relate - just lost one of my 80gig drives. don't know when I backed it up last... tried to access it to get some prog files for a song I'm redoing and "this drive is corrupted or not of a valid windows format". I think there's a prog I can dwnload to restore corrupted drives but afa I could tell the drive itself wasn't turning anymore (uh oh).
ppul used to say that they didn't use digital for this reason (potential for loss)... but then you've proved why that's not the case.

Ouch. That's the message from hell, Mike. Sad, but your HD is ruined. Always, always have back-ups. Upload stuff if you have to, and make copies.

yeah, if it's not spinning it's a goner... but in my experience a hd will start spinning again if you let it sit and cool down for a minute. and if this happens the data can be recovered easily...
even if it stops spinning all together it CAN ultimately be recovered... it's just beyond conventional means. (after all it's very similar to a cd or dvd)

so I'm guessing by the fact that you read some of it you must be in an IT related field? iow what do ya do up der aye?

I'm studying Software programming this fall and I've worked for a Computer Software prog company for 2 months. I just have to know at least a bit of it
