This is Mike's spider....

I suppose, it's better finding it in the garbage can though, than wherever you were when you wrote the "Sh*thouse Blues"!!! LOL ;-)

damn... I was pretty drunk when I posted that. (pic)

it's a black widow for those of you who don't know.

yah the brown recluse is quite a little buggar but I think the pic you have up is fake... they only get like 2inches across. (please correct me if I'm wrong)
they can do some real damage. my boss got bit while in the army and damn near lost his leg. won't kill ya tho.

craig: yeah... shitty song... I tried to make it sound like I was singing it from an outhouse... cause that's what inspired it! The song is really better when you smell it...

A brown recluse bite CAN kill you. A few years ago a gal in Overland Park got bit on her face and died from the subsequent spreading infection. Some people are more allergic to bites than others. I actually heard that brown recluse's can't bite, you have to press them into your skin. People get "bit" when they put on clothing and they're pressed into the skin. The gal that died was sleeping and rolled over and pressed the spider on to her face. Years ago I got a spider bite on my stomach that was really nasty. The sore was about three inches in diameter and didn't go completely away for about six months. I don't think it was a recluse bite. I play disc golf at a course where there's a lot of pine trees. There's a specie of spider that lives in the trees and spins webs between trees. I get them on fairly often, I'm sure it was one of those. Another spider I used to get bit by I believe is called a fisher spider. It lives around ponds and streams and looks like a small gray twig. Their bite is very nasty, kind of like a big horsefly, but they don't cause any infection. I used to get them on me all the time when trout fishing in small streams. Later...

yeah, black widows rarely kill folks... and I suspect that dying from a brown recluse is fairly unlikely too. (I'm not going to test either theory).

Like bob said the secondary infection of either bite can be a real bitch.
Watch the wound for red streaks running up or down the skin and being Hot to touch. If you see straking or increasing pain a Dr visit and Antibiotic can reduce the chance of dermal sloughing and sepsis.
NOT COOL!

it didn't bite me... I bit it.

jk

no bite... I was drunk and trolling...

unfortunately I had to kill it... I'm too afraid to try and remove it for fear of it biting me... so I just sprayed it... it's dead. I feel really guilty and ashamed.

It's a Camel spider.
That pic is known as "the picture" because nobody's ever seen Camel spiders that big. But they are as big as Tarantulas.

Here's one eating a Lizzard.

I never feel guilty killing something dangerous - I've killed quite a few copperheads (got bit on my foot once - 4 nasty days in the hospital & couldn't walk for a frikken month - PLUS the $6K in med bills!) & I just smashed a black widow the other day on the job. I wouldn't feel right if I let it live & it bit someone else afterward.

I wanna go rattlesnake hunting. I hear they're great on the grill. I've only had 'em in restaurants, & I want them fresh!

Hey sans! I hear they got those rattlesnake roundups in Tx. You ever go on one? Are they around where you live?

I tried to get my father in law to go with me once, when I went down there to visit, but he didn't wanna. Wonder why?

Very few rattlers left in East Texas. A species known as the button or ground rattler by locals has just a scale at the tip of his tail. Never seen one with rattles. A few but very few and protected speces of the Timber Rattler, some documented in excess of 5ft in length and very aggressive.
The Round ups are in the western and southern part of the State. Most famous is in Freer Tx. and Yes I've been there and snake taste a lot like chicken  As a boy in the 60's our family attended the one in Freer. A professional snake handler allowed a western dimond back to bite his leg and every hour he would get out on his podium in the middle of one of the three snake tanks to show progression of the poison. on our way home we heard on the radio he ended up in the ER. I worked in a gas processing plant (hydrogen sulfide) near Monahans Tx. It was not at all unusual to see one or more snakes a night in the meter houses. Some round up snakes are flushed out of large groups in the winter and kept for the event. But that is cheating. West Texas paves the roads with rattlers and Jack rabbits.

They can get 5 or 6 inches. I think I heard the pic is not a fake, just taken at a close-up angle which makes it appear larger.

Here's a perspective shot...

I never said it was a "shitty" song. I think it's funny. I just said it was better to see that spider in the garbage than while on the can, or you would have written a different song. LOL

I love that "Riverboat" song though.

You feel like you are drifting down the Mississippi on one.

Beautiful song and playing.

I got hammered by a friggin' wasp today.

About an hour ago, I extracted revenge by means of chemical warfare. One strategically placed shot did the job with minimal collateral damage. A bit of vinegar put me back in action.

Summer is here!
and that little bastard had me,
