I'm asking everyone to look at their profiles through other people's eyes.
For instance - if you are a singer - at LEAST tell us if you are a male or a female!
Sometimes you can't tell by your screen name . . .
.
And tell us what kind of music you like.
Don't expect everyone to listen to your posted music (if you posted any at all, that is . . .) to find out your style.
TELL us your style! It only takes a few seconds to read, but it can can take some people 10 minutes to download your song . . .
.
Remember - your profile is only one in a series of a million other profiles.
- you've got to tell us more, so everyone doesn't just move on to the next profile or the next music site, still looking.
Thanks

Ha, ya got me!
Touche!
.
Actually they are all my styles.
I know most musicians will do, say rock, or metal, or C & W or what-not . . .
Not me.
I played at an open mike the other day, looking for musicians - 13 songs, total, and about 13 styles, total.
I did rock, classical, 'space-music,', hot jazz, cool jazz, folk, boogie, pop, et. al. . . .
.
Most musicians will tell me that's not a good thing, that you have to be known for a style.
I'm known for doing my own thing, and even though it's always all different styles - the crowd still likes it.
But, seeing as I do all originals (over 55, now) I guess my style is 'me,' and it's mood-dependent . . .
But, if I play 5 songs, it's a sure bet you'll hear 5 styles of music . . .
The styles under my name are the most predominant influences, however . . .

Thanks for this thread. We are here to find musicians and to be fuond by musicians. I did check out my profile. JMHO, I like my profile. It does talk about my preferred musical styles 8) I have not posted any music yet. But the music I post will be pertinent to what I say in my profile. I ask though, that you check out my profile and tell me what you think.

Thanx,
Mary

Ditto. You should be known for every style that you want to play.

Mary, you profile hits all the main points.
It could use music, as you said, and a few pictures, but it's good

I used to say ABBA to ZZ TOP and all inbetween...Its a much more selective world now days when talkin genre..Those of us over 40 remember the days when ALL genres had to be covered,(working cover bands) so it was common knowledge that you would play some of all...Even the original artists Ive worked with covered many genres.BUT, I guess now days with the family tree branched out so wide in each vein like goth metal, speed metal , heavy metal, death metal etc. (Im sure Im forgetting some.. )its good to be specific...Heck, the tunes on my PF are all over the place...I have a split personality... I think??Maybe I should have 2..maybe 3... ..Yeah ya should , no ya shouldnt, hey dont talk back to me, who me?...

I'm tired of all the jagg offs who put up a post with no picture, no audio, and a bigass ego. And then they have the cajones to put up

"Experienced musician, serious inquires only. Others need not apply"

or some sh*t like that.

One of the great things about bandmix is that you can put up pictures and audio. I'd love to see more "serious musicians" take advantage of this.

Mary, you said,"You should be known for every style that you want to play."
Yeah, I guess that about sums it up, huh?
.
I get bored hearing a bunch of songs if they all sound similar, or if they all use the same progressions.
At first I had believed that it was too chancey to play, say a boogie or a jazz song - at a place that, say, only does rock.
But, it seems that the direct opposite is true, at least around here.
A variety is good, around these parts.
.
I've even played slow blues and 'happy finger-picking songs' in heavy metal places, and the crowd just ate it up . . . 'different' can be good . . .
.
. . . as long as they music you choose isn't insulting to the crowd.
For instance:
Death metal doesn't go over in churches so well.
And 'lolly-pop music' doesn't go over in punk bars.
Don't do Country at a rave . . .
Don't play 'elevator music' at a biker rally . . .
.
But, I like to stay out of my comfort zone . . .
And, with all the styles I do, I'm almost always surprised at whichs styles of music are the crowd favorites.
And - it's not necessarily the style of music that is ALWAYS playing there, either . . .
So, within limits we shouldn't be 'too chosey' in what we chose to play . . . What they like may not actually be what you think they will like.
I have never been able to accurately predict exactly what a crowd will like . . . never . . .

I am in total agreement. As a matter of fact, a few years back, I played The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire ) at a strawberry festival in June. My kids were embarrassed. Later, a woman came up to me and thanked me for playing her late father's favorite song.

I told a biker friend of mine that I wanted to get a flute wuartet to play at a Harley pic nic and he looked at me like I lost my mind. I may have lost my mind but I was serious. Not being able to pick exactly what a crowd will like is impossible. A crowd is made up of many different people.

I saw a concert on TV, featuring Clint Black where he played drums to Josie ( by Steely Dan ). A different guy sang the song and it was outstanding. Needless to say I was surprised and very pleased. Whoda thunk that Clint Black could not only sing CW but also play drums to some jazz? I am going to see if I can find the clip and I will post it here.

I couldn't find that clip but here is another example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bi6qQieOOew This is the Kronos Quartet. You never know what they are going to play. Now to show my point, I have to post another video clip. I will be back.
Here it is
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UP7rjppeRA0 KQ do anything written during the 20th century and beyond.

How about Stairway to Heaven by Jazz guitarist Stanley Jordan.

It just shows to go yah.
