I put up another acoustisized Mudvayne cover, "Goodbye".
Tell me what you think.

I like Mudvayne
... Very interesting take on it. Acoustic Mudvayne.
I hear a little bit of Fuel in the vox.. sounds f-in' great, man.
Real emotion is very important.. Nice delivery.. and subtle harmony.
How long did you work on it? And did you tab it yourself?

I did it myself. I do everything myself. It took me a day to record.
If you have any of Mudvayne's cd's, you'll notice that alot of their stuff would sound really cool in acoustic. The emotion comes naturally in that song. If you don't feel anything when you record, chances are the person listening later won't either. That song has such a psychedelic feel to it. I felt so compelled, I did a cover. Thanks for your opinion.

Correction: This opened my eyes a little bout Mudvayne. The verses of Happy? would sound nice on a solid acoustic.

I must admit, I'm not familiar with the songs of Mudvayne, but I like the way you play 'em.

For some reason, your style puts me to mind of Howard Devoto's old band, "Magazine".

Of your songs, I still like Solitary Confinement the best.

It's actually really true to the original, even though done on acoustic. You did a great job bro... the music, vocals and harmonies, everything. I've been a Mudvayne fan, since their first album, back around 2000.

Dude, I think I like your version as much as the original. I'm impressed.


"That song wrote itself quickly (Goodbye). We just basically threw that and (On the Move) together before The End of All Things to Come writing sessions. I love "Goodbye." I think it's one of my favorite songs that we've ever written. I like the vibe of it, the way that it comes across, the emotion in it and the idea behind it. It's just a really heartfelt track. It meant a lot to me to write that track from where it came from. So it was a very important song for me. While writing songs, you're trying to convey exactly what you're thinking about right at that time, and get it out of your heart and on the tape. Hopefully it makes that transition, and when you listen to it back it comes across with that kind of meaning. I think that song conveyed exactly how I was feeling at that moment of recording, because I literally finished the lyrics and walked into the studio and started tracking. It was pretty much tracked within 20 minutes of the lyrics being done."

Thanx for that little tidbit. I've never seen it before. I think L.D. 50 was Mudvayne's masterpeice. The first album I heard from them was Lost and Found. Then The Beginning of All Things to End. And then L.D. 50. I went backwards.
I'm glad you all liked my cover. I've got more material coming.
The song goodbye put me in such a trance. I thought I would have a little bit of a problem making an acoustic version, but once I got the feel for the unusual rhythm, it became alot of fun. I'm surprised to see how many of you listen to Mudvayne as well!

It also gives insight into Chad's writing, that it is "in the moment" and from the heart. And that, is... "writing from inspiration" which is what I appreciate about them. It is not tired old reworkings, or trying to pander, but writing straight from the soul, and trying to get it down while the inspiration is still pure. I totally relate to that. How things sometimes almost seem to come from somewhere else, and you have to get it down, before the risk of losing the original feeling that went into it. I know that in the past, I have lost some of the best inspirations that ever came to me, cause the next day, I remembered the chords and basic patterns and ideas of the song, but something was missing, the right rhythm or feel, or whatever it is, but something got lost by the next day, and it wasn't the same song anymore. Cell phones that record voice files, and other technology, has made me better at recording that original inspiration right away. So luckily, I'm less careless than I used to be.

Well, I think you are right, that more than a few of their tunes work well acoustically, and that is probably because even with L.D. 50, which is heavier than their later stuff, even still, there are very strong melody lines in alot of their songs.

Those guys are no bullsh*t, and I get tired of hearing some metal heads dis them from time to time.

I feel the same way. I've got a couple of songs now that have lost their original fire because I couldn't record them right then and there.

I feel that alot of what Mudvayne is highly original and inspired. I don't believe they are copycats or hacks. I would LOVE to see another album dropped.

They've really helped me develop as a musician and seek more original and creative avenues.
