Alright .. So far so good. I managed to record a pretty good intro. Check it out on my profile if you'd like to hear it. I didn't use my rhythm hand at all. I even hammered a Bass.

Positive thoughts.....I'm not stopping s**t. I'm not gonna let this keep me from playing.

Edit: I'll be adding some vocals to it tonight.. I wrote some cool sh*t today.

OK.. So I feel like I'm talking to myself now.

I got some lyrics on the music now.. I just wanna say thanks to everyone again. It's stupid, but when I heard I had this s**t, my first reaction was, damn.. I can't do anything now. Not my job. Not my music.. I'm gonna go broke.

But you know what? There are a lot of people who have dealt with much worse, and still accomplished what they set out to do in life. My dad had a heart transplant, and he makes the coolest metal sculptures you've ever seen.

I'm gonna keep the name of the song Carpal Tunnel. Because now I think I went a little overboard on my initial reaction. I did this song with literally one hand. And I'm not trying to pat myself on the back, but I'm kinda proud of this recording.

When you listen to the lyrics, just keep in mind, I haven't met too many people who haven't felt like some part of their dream life has been taken away due to a misfortune they've encountered somewhere along the way. But you just move on through adversity. Adjust, and keep on the path anyway you know how. You can find your way. You can blame the gods all you want and give up, or you can deal with reality and move forward.

I for one, choose to deal with the reality and move forward anyway I can.

That being said, this is just the beginning of this song. It's in it's beginning stages, but I'm liking where it's headed. Please take a listen and tell me what you think. And once again I want to thank you all for your support.

Shredd it sounds good to me.

You may wind up with a whole new way to play guitar because of the CTS.

I havent had it but the bass player Im playing with has it, he wears a brace and takes some kind of inflammatory medicine and seems to be coping with it well.

I wish you all the luck in the world my friend.

Bro, I feel your pain. I'm a vocalist.. and one day, I got something like a cross between pneumonia and critical asthma (which I already have). I lost my voice for 6 days. Completely lost my voice. The chords weren't moving and all was coming out was zombie sounds. I thought that's it for me. It took me 2 weeks and a bit more to get my voice together enough to sing Knockin' on Heaven's Door.
It was a big fright, but thank God.. I'm doing much better now.
Anyways, what I'm saying is, keep it together and let the music take control :D

Franny wrote:Hey Kramer, i had the same symptoms a couple years ago, pins and needles in my left hand, felt like it was constantly asleep. Well knowing that MD's love to send you to someone with a knife, i went to a Chiropractor and he diagnosed what they call "double crush", it turned out it was coming mainly from my neck (cervical spine), few neck adjustments later what ever it was, was gone. Now i can just lean my head to one side and get a "crack" to keep it at bay.
It can and has at times returned; but knowing how to work it out myself has saved me from unnecessary surgery imo.

Wow...................

My symptoms sound like a cross between yours and Kramerguys

About 6 months ago I started noticing that depending on my position while lying down (usually on my stomach, and lifting my head up to watch TV) my left arm would go numb down into the hand effecting mostly the thumb. As soon as I would change position, it would go back to normal. I also have noticed a stiffness in the neck.

Fast forward to the past 6 weeks or so.................

I have been on a busy playing/rehearsal schedule. I have a band, but also was helping out a friend to audtion members for another band, and agreed to help yet another friend out with a big show he was doing for Cinco De Mayo. I was basically playing either at home or band rehearsals for 3 - 5 hours a day, 5 days a week.

I started noticing a "burning sensation" in my left wrist area that radiated into the meaty part of the palm of my left hand. I also felt discomfort (like a stiffness) in my finger joints - but particularly in the ring finger when playing in certain positions.

I have since slowed way down on the practice schedule, and the majority of the pain has gone away, but not completely.

Still feel a stiffness in the neck though.

Wondering if I should see a Orthopdic Doctor or a Chiropracter.

I think I may start taking Vitamin B and wearing a wrist brace at night like Kramerguy to see if that helps.

John: Yes I have that as well, but I chalk it up to bad circulation. Sometimes for no reason at all one or two of my fingers on either hand lose all blood flow, turn white, then start to hurt really bad if I don't run them under hot water. Don't know what it is, but it scares the hell out of ya when it happens. If the weather drops below 45 degrees my hands are constantly cold. If you get a diagnosis, please let me know what it is. If it were circulation, then my feet should be cold as well, but they almost never are...

Shredd: Hey brother hang in there. I was told that I had that back when I was about 21 or 22 from playing too much guitar and piano. It hurt like hell after just a few minutes of playing either one. I took a break for a few months and it went away to some extent. The rest I just blame on getting older and over-use and deal with it the best that I can. Good luck and I sincerely hope that you'll be able to beat this thing. If you haven't already tried this, take a couple of Motrin (anti-inflamatory) before you play to help to stop the swelling and chaffing of the tendons.

I went to the doctor today.. I'm pretty sure I have it. I have to see a specialist next week.

wow dude, you do nice work... much respect.

I used to do cabinetry and specifically solid surface. All day I worked with either a 3.5horse router / belt sander / clamps and when I wasn't doing that I'd be screwing cabs together.
I feel for ya.
Even the da sander I used would bother my palm after a while. It's tuff workin' with yer hands all day.

anywho, some things that helped me out:
#1 those chinese balls that are supposed to increase blood flow
#2 stretching hands - tendon stretch - especially b4 playing
#3 graduated bit. it tapers off at the tip... these tend to be real wide at the base and make it easier to "suck two pieces together"... which ultimately means you don't have to 'muscle' the screws in so hard. Believe me it makes a world of difference.

good luck

I think that's pretty good for one hand man. Can't wait to hear the song when you've finished it. It's sounding pretty good now.

But here's what's important...

The Attitude!!!!

That is the true masterpiece being completed right now! You have been f*cked over by your former band, and by your former girlfriend, you have been lied to and let down by some of your current band, a Motown has-been has tried and steal your talent (and diminish it) by him wanting to re-create you in his own image, and for another band, a band which is beneath your abilities.

You've wanted to quit. Probably many times.

And now this? This is like a final straw, or rather, isn't it a native american tribe that puts young men through a series of tests, of increasing difficulty, and by the end, they become men, receive a vision and it sets the path for their adulthood? Something like that.

THAT is what is happening to you bro!

You have been reborn through your struggles, and overcoming them. I sense a new attitude in you, that is going to pave the path for your future. This adversity has the power to defeat you, but instead, you have made it STRENGTHEN you. NOW, you have a new fire inside. You aren't going to take alot of sh*t lying down anymore. You are clear. You are ready to succeed, in ways you only dreamed of previously. You are not hoping for it any longer... you are DEMANDING it as your right!

It's YOUR time. I think you know that. I think you feel that.

I get a strong sense of that too. You have turned a corner.

The end of this year for you, will be NOTHING like the beginning of it.

Things have changed. They have changed for the better.

Think often about that rite of passage I talked about. It is accomplished ALONE. You are the one finding your way through it to the end. No one else.

I think the victor gets a new name too.

Don't choose something like "Sh*tting Bear"

Make it cool! ;-)

The only symptoms I have are left hand pain and cramping doing bar chord type stuff. Or something like 'Crackerman' by STP -- really simple to play, but the constant E - F# - A changes during the verse kills me by the time the sceond verse rolls around. I just shake it off after the song... flap by hand around and try to loosen it back up.
So I probably have the begining stages of something, but I'm not too worried about it yet.

the KIDD -- As far as cold fingers... I get cold, stiff fingers right before playing live from nerves/mild stage fright, but haven't had cold and dry fingers in normal everyday situations.
You know that whole fight or flight response thing -- diverts a bit of blood away from some areas.
I would guess 'circulation' or 'blood pressure', maybe?

Shred9: it could be a blood flow thing due to something going on in your arms or wrists, and not necesarrily an all around bad circulation deal.
I have horrible circulation, and my fingers only get cold if my arm falls asleep for some reason or if I'm stage frighty. Never during the course of normal waking activity.

Just speculation and babble on my part...

Shredd'

Sorry to hear about that c.t.s.

I just had to comment upon your excellent carpentry workmanship. You are obviously a man of many talents. I hope that you can still get One Day Broken up and running.

I have been building a new house in my spare time for the last few years, and have yet to build the staircase. Have you ever considered moving to eastern Pennsylvania?

Howlin'

P.S.
I just listened to the new song. SOUNDS GREAT! ( I think you should call it "Have My Way")
Hang in there ol' buddy.

Shredd6: Cool tune, beautifull wood work. Hate hear about your continued struggle but I feel like I know you wont give up or give in.
I'm jealous in some ways my friend. I have always loved making stuff with my hands. My grandfather was a carpenter. Its the creation and ability to complete a task step back and say yea, hell yea I did that.
And move to the next project. For me there is no completion except death for my profession. If I thought I could make a living at it I'd chuck my scrubs for a hammer and chisle in a heartbeat.
Who knows maybe one day I'll do just that.

Shredd my wife had it in both arms and was wearing the braces for about a year. She had to get the operation for both which went really well (lol They asked her if she wanted to get both done at the same time. We both agreed that would be rather inconvenient. I really do love my Wife, but if given the choice there are certain things I would be really reluctant to do for her.)

On one side it was so bad, her hand kept on falling asleep while doing nothing and the surgeon said after the operation, that the nerves where actually flattened from the tension of the sheathing. This was the result of appraising jewelry by pinching the gem between fingers or using a tweezers sometimes a few thousand times a day, for a span of over twenty five years. After about fifteen years of heavy computer usage, gaming and keyboard playing, I have it to where the pinky on both hands occasionally fall asleep. Although warm up exercises from Aikido after a few days alleviates it for a while. I’m just to lazy to really worry that much about it (computers require less effort then power drills).

As per previous posts, no doubt there can be multiple causes for similar symptoms as well as effective cures. In my Wife’s case, she is lucky that putting it off as long as she did, didn’t cause any permanent damage and she has not noticed any apparent loss of use from either hand since the operation. The operation for my Wife worked just fine, we had a friend die under anesthesia due to heart failure during a routine tonsillectomy. If they say surgery get at least a second opinion, when you select the surgeon, get as many opinions and referrals as possible. Not just for the surgeon, but just as important, the hospital it would be done at. Well educated morons don’t have to be politicians, they can be medical “professionals” too. Hopefully it is something simple that rest and a little rehab can fix. Let us know how it goes after your visit.

That’s a really good tune, love the lyrics. If it helps, I’ll probably never be that good at guitar with both hands and would take a lot less then five months to injure myself given any sort of power tool. Not that dyslexia and carpentry is a good mix to begin with. Measure six times just to cut the same piece of wood twelve different sizes and that happens when both my hands are working just fine. :D

Thanks again to everyone for your words of encouragement. I'm still crossing my fingers that I may not exactly have CTS. I don't get any numbness, and my wrist feels fine. But my palm and my thumb area hurt really bad. If I put pressure on my fingers, it hurts my thumb. If I put pressure on my palm, it hurts my thumb. If I put pressure on my thumb.. Well, you get the picture.

I see a specialist tomorrow.. So I'll know more tomorrow night what the verdict is.
