CBS and Mark Burnett Productions have teamed up to find the greatest undiscovered marketing genius for a new show, "Jingles"! We are looking for teams of (preferably) 2-3 people to write and perform product jingles. A team could be anything from a brother/sister team to a singing comedy duo or a barbershop quartet!
Do you think you could use your quick mind, great sense of humor, and musical skills to wow Fortune 500 companies with your talent?
We are looking for fun, high energy performances mixed with a competitive spirit. Minimum age 13.
Please email Jonathan at
jtanzman@markburnettprod.com for more information. We will be casting in Nashville late May

I have often thought of jingles for products. Years ago Life Savers used to sell the holes (I don't know if they still do or not). As part of a jingle I thought about using these lines: "Sometimes you fell like a hole, sometimes you don't." Later...

Having written some stuff for local tv & radio, I'd be very interested in looking into this. Only problem is, I work ALONE, & have for far too many years. I'd love to try my hand at collaboration to write jingles, as it looks to me like something I have a talent for, & it could be fun as long as I & whoever I work with can keep our egos in check. I'd also like having someone to help when I run my headbone into a wall trying to write something.

Lessee CBS...
The same CBS that was paying groups less than a nickel per album when albums cost $4?
The same CBS that had groups signing contracts that basically said the company owns your voice, artists couldn't even remaster and re-release their own music 30 years later to put on CD, CBS that currently probably pays less than $1 per $17 CD...
If I even talk to you people by phone I'll check my wallet...if I meet you anywhere I'll leave it in the car and check to be sure I still have both shoes before I leave the room.
I write a jingle, you hand me a hundred bucks and you make millions, I never even get credit as songwriter. I've never seen a quick line scroll by on a commercial - Music By: ~~~ The only one I can think of I know is the Dr Pepper jingle Randy Newman wrote in the 70's. Yeah you remember it, Dr Pepper, so misunderstood... That's Randy...
No thanks, CBS can take a long walk on a short pier.
sanshouheil: I have a .243 Mauser with a nice scope, (my father's deer rifle, I got it after we buried him) I can put 5 rounds inside a nickel with it at 100 yards, if I can hold it steady enough, what are you carrying around that uses 5.56?

Uh...I always thought that expecting to get "credits" on a 15-30-60 second commercial would be expecting a bit much, considering the time frame involved.
That's why there are those award shows for giving ppl credit on the best, & only the best, that are produced.
Most jingles are written by/within advertising companies, no? The company, through thier own various contracts, gets paid & gets the credit. Ppl who write the commercial jingles within the co. get paid pretty well for it, I would imagine.
Of course, that only covers those commercials with original music. Companies buying the recording rights to existing hits & using them in commercials merely pay the ppl who own the rights to those songs, as well as the performing rights, just like anyone else using the recording.
I see nothing inherently wrong with that, as long as the composers & performers get paid as they would for regular radio play of the music.
It looks like it would be interesting, high pressure yet fun work.
I'll have to check into that a little more carefully. I did go to a local advertising agency to explore this, a few years ago. The woman who ran it was the most etherially beautiful human being I'd ever seen in person, & had been "Miss WV" a couple of years prior to our little interview. Most distracting, she was, yet she did have some helpful advice that I didn't really explore that well. (I think I was smitten! SMITTEN, I say!)
I wonder what I did with those notes...hmmm
Yeah, while I'll admit that CBS is not the best co. to deal with, the contest looks fun, & could lead to some lucrative projects in the future to finance one's personal projects, or just to live in a better lifestyle using music.
