These days my main amps are a 2X12 Supro combo, and a 2X12 Silvertone combo. but back when I was gigging in the 70s, I used to haul around a 200 watt Hiwatt stack. YEEE HAAWWW that was a loud'n! It was master volume modded. All I had for effects were a Maestro Echoplex, and one of those Maestro phase shifters with the three big plastic speed switches on top

going back... all the way back...

my first amp was a gorilla, then came an ampeg solid state pos, then a peavey backstage, then a crate half stack, then a gibson skylark, then a laney half stack, crate vintage club, then came my current amp...
digitech 2112/halfler t3/peavey classic 50-50/two sonic 2x12 loaded with celests... and it's quite loud with two 50w tube power amps pushing it.

If I could afford anything... I'd have a matchless.
:D :D

I still have my old Sunn Model T , what a beast. We practiced outside recently at my house with full pa. The bass played has an 8x10 Hartke rig and was complaining that he couldnt hear me, so next time Im going to line up the old Sunn and the Mesa and play in stereo.

It will be a big reality check when we play some gigs next month, I can hear em now "TURN IT DOWN"

Craig, you use the line 6 spider III (actually looks like a different model, jam? maybe)

I was using it but the vibrations from playing loud caused the knobs to trigger randomly which then over-rode the (clean) preset I used. I found it to be really annoying when I was playing something really tight with no fx and then all the sudden I'm all reverbed, delayed, and phased out the wazoo and having to click off and back on the preset in the middle of a song..

I just sold it off last weekend and bought a Peavey KB3.

i started with a fender bandmaster in the 60's with a strat. now i play a 7 string archtop thru a walter woods head and a raezer's edge cabinet.just ordered an AER acoustic amp for a different sound.don't know why we are always looking for that perfect sound. mine is a mellow sound for jazz rythym guitar.

I played my Farfisa Combo Compact organ through a Fender Super Reverb Amp back in the 60's .

In the 70's, I removed two of the fender speakers from the Super, disconnected the other two, and installed two 10" Altec Lansings. (my ol' Honer Clavinet C sounded great through it)

Somewhere along the line, I was packin' one of those monstrous Kustom 400 rigs, complete with two refrigerator sized, silver sparkle Naugahyde covered cabinets, each one loaded with two 15" speakers and one 15" metal horn. Sounded LOUD! (and terrible)....

I have long since discontinued useing any amps , preferring to run my Yamaha synthesizers direct through the sound system, along with my vocal noises.

early 70's - Vox Berkely II

Mid 70's - Kustom 100watt POS solid strate 1x12 combo

80's Peavey practice amp through 1x12 cab, mic'd into PA.
Sometimes ran it line out through a 4 channel PA with a pair of 2x10 cabs, ala half stack.

90 - Peavey MX through Kustom 2x12 rolled & pleated cab, original 67 model. Gigged with it from 90 or so till now, also got a Fender Champ for practice amp around 90. Still have it, never part with that jewel...

2004 or so added a 73 Fender Super Reverb and A/B switch, can't see any changes any time soon.

The MX is as clean as it gets, Super Reverb is raunch n roll deluxe, never was able to get both out of one rig, so I think this one's a keeper...

The one that got away...vintage Orange w/ 4x12 cab, $200 at a Houston pawn shop. Didn't think I could carry it in the trunk of my car so I didn't grab...wish I had now...I had just bought the MX a couple of months earlier, had it repaired and was gigging with it.

Kramer:

Yes, I have a Spider III (2X12 150w) I like the tones and the 4 channels to save your own sounds. But you may be right about Line 6 amps. Twice now, I suddenly had no sound (strangely, only between songs, and not an actual song going out) and I thought I had a bad cord at first. Tried switching cords but same problem, then I hit my preset again, and voila, sound again. So, maybe they are not as road-worthy as they should be? They have great sounds though. I'll probably switch at some point when I can afford to, cause I definitely don't want that happening DURING a song.

Mike:

Yeah, I know. Quite a few years ago, I had a band together that was on the way. We broke up when the drummer got tendinitis and were young and stupid, and didn't realize... hey, maybe we should just get another drummer? And the lead guitarist was my best friend, and he played much better than me, and my amp was better than his, so... I gave it to him.

Years later I found out he pawned the damn thing eventually.

Bastard! LOL

I have too soft a heart sometimes.
