I got a letter from Hill top records. Saying they're Carol Ita White From Laverne and Shirley and will be doing 2 songs and wants me to submit material. I'm sure this is a BS scam. Anyone able to tell me what they're trying to do. Some new CD project. Yea there's no one out there who can write a song but me. Well at least not as good as me. Any wagers that if I followed up I'd get picked and more so that it would cost me money.
Any takers.

There are inumerable scams out there. Nigerians are the worst internet scammers there are, and rather than just the standard "I am the former son of a diplomat and need to transfer a million dollars to your account, and will give you 10%" kind of scam, they are now targetting musicians on :gig posting" sites and music forums. Throughout history, the best scams involve selling someone a dream, and musicians are big dreamers!

Don't trust most of these things.

Research it.

Whatever you do, don't put a check or money order into your account from them, because they can get your routing numbers this way and clear your account out.

If it is not Nigerians, there are no shortage of homegrown scammy offers, where a company claims they will put your song on a compilation CD which is then supposedly sent to radio stations and record labels with which they supposedly have affiliation. They are ALL scams, and ask for money for the priveledge or the handling or whatever.

Legitimate offers NEVER involve you paying money out of pocket.

Complaints ALL OVER the net calling it a scam. And as I suggested, it is the old "compilation CD" scam. They will ask for money.

No one's ever tried that on me.. Especially not recently. Can't say I know what a scam is.

Some people just straight up suck!

Just googled them. It's a scam, DAH. Looks like they get your address from when you copyrite your stuff.
