Any real success stories from this site?

Just curious, but are there any real success stories from anyone joining this site? Has anyone ever been able to put "the" band together that they wanted to or have they just laid back and been satisfied with what they got (in other words; dumbing down their playing to "fit" in)? If so, was it worth it (or does your heart and soul bleed because of the decisions that you've made)? Last but not least: Is anyone truly happy with the results they've recieved from joining this site in hopes of achieving their goals?

I for one am very pleased with the results I have gotten thru Bandmix.
I probably dont fit your profile for success, as I am an amiture guitarist.
Our band is a first time for our lead and drummer. My second if you count playing Bass in a garage band in the late 70's . Our Bassest has been around a long time and joined and plays with us because it is in his words "fun again". We have had a few gigs and even gotten paid but not enough for me to quit Nursing (not a lot of musicians in our area can say they can make $27.00 / hr. every day at will ) If anyone expects being on this site is going to get them high pay gigs or "discovered" Its probably a pipe dream. But with determination you can find people to play music with.
Thr rest is up to you.

I've had way better success on CraigsList finding people if that's what you mean.

I conjured up 50% of my band through good ol' BandMix! (and I have one of those "cheapskate memberships!") I now expect to have the "Gin House Rockers" back out rockin' in short order.

Our keyboard/harmonica player is a Bandmix member but I knew him many years before Bandmix existed. We've had a few guitar players over to jam from Bandmix and a few weeks ago contacted a sax player off Bandmix. I can't say we formed a band from this website but I can say that it has helped locate some good musicians. I'm on it primarily because I enjoy this Forum, and I've learned a lot from contributors here who know way more about all this music stuff than dumbass me. Obviously there's other ways to contact musicians, but I think this site is worth belonging to. Good luck. Later...

So far, I've yet to find a permanent bandmate through bandmix. I found my drummer using a posting at the local music store.

Forgive me, I'm quite frustrated today because we set up 2 auditions this week and both flaked out at the last minute.

I've had no better luck on CL, although (more often than bandmix) the CL respondents at least show up for the auditions...(so far only 2 people I've found out of about 20 on bandmix actually showed up, it's beyond annoying) ,and we just haven't found someone through CL that had the skills they said they did.. which leads us back to bandmix..

It's like a horrible cycle of disappointment, although I don't blame bandmix for it, so much as people in general. The Internetz seems to have muddied the waters quite a bit.

Thanks for the responses guys. I kind of see the cycle here and it's exactly what I was thinking in the first place. Last night's rehersal got canned because my drummer got more ink done on his arm and couldn't play and my bass player lied and said that he had to watch his kid, but when my son and I rode our quads over there, we found out that he full of crap. He can't hang anyway so he won't even play without the drummer being there to cover up the fact that he can't come up with any basslines on his own. Talk about frustration!

Kramerguy: I feel your disappointment all the way around bro. Maybe someday things will start to pan out...It's hard to hold onto hope that never seems to shine through...

yeah I really hope this site works because I, for one, am tired of hanging out at Guitar Center and other music stores trying to find somebody who's even halfway decent.

Hey FT, Dont hang out here either my man, do a lot of searches in your area within the range you are willing to drive for rehersals. Use as many different search criteria as you feel even comes close to your Style of play. Send messages to everyone you hit on the searches. It was a slow process for me and frustrating as hell. But it did work out in the end. When you get the guys you need put us up some of that heavy blues to grove to.

Not having much luck, myself...maybe I'm posting the wrong material?

I guess I suck

Maybe I should put my bass work back up instead of my songs?

Do a 50/50 split Phil. Maybe two of the songs and 2 tracks of bass wankery. (And by two of the songs, I mean Heads Up and another one.)

I've had 'some' success. Waiting to see how it pans out in the long run.
I'm going to try a little experiment -- post contact info right on my profile, and see if anyone contacts me out of the blue. (Or see if bandmix clobbers me. :D )

Maybe he did listen to our music

I was terribly frustrated the other day when I replied-

I've met so many people from this site that were SO gung ho, peppy, loved my stuff, etc... Funny thing is I get them on the phone and they stay their ground, talk about all these songs they know, and act like what I do is exactly what they are looking for, and then...

There were a couple of people that showed up, although they didn't have what we were looking for.

Most however, never show up for the audition, or call. When I try to call them to find out what happened, I generally get the wife/GF/family member who doesn't know anything about anything. One guy even deleted his bandmix account the next day after he pulled a last minute call-out on his audition.

I'm finding one constant among them all (the no-shows) is that they have no music posted!!

Everyone here said from day 1 that we shouldn't bother with someone who can't bother to record a simple demo and upload it, and they are absolutely right.

It's sad, how the internet has made so many people into poseurs. It without a doubt wastes much of all of our time. It's also sad that no one site seems to offer a one-stop solution to finding potential bandmates. I've found probably 10 different sites that promise to find us a bass player, and ALL of them want money. Unless they can offer guarantees that people show up for auditions, I don't think It's going to happen.

I've had more success from a bulletin board post at the local georges music store than I have on all internet mediums combined. Sad.

I know you are right Kramerguy. But I am glad my drummer and my base player did not share that conviction as Ray and I had nothing more than a burning desire. (those are hard to convert to MP3) We had the basics for a few songs but really had no idea how to record nor equipment. Once we had the boys together I did not mind investing in the toys. Oh and the bump, We are going to get together tomorrow night to see if we can put something together.
