Where is the "Industrial" option?

So many genres, and no one likes industrial I guess?
I am totally up for some of that.
Since I can't decide between my childhood lullabies of new wave and the most exciting stuff to play metal... I figure industrial is a good in the middle genre for me to get into some more.
I just can't find anyone else on here who plays the stuff.

I wish you were closer. I was in an Industrial act for five years and had a blast. We were playing warehouse shows that would draw upwards of 300 people a night. I haven't played it in quite awhile but sure wouldn't walk away from it if an opportunity presented itself.

I've heard it described, & most likely even heard it in a movie or two...but I can't say I've ever really sat down & listened to the stuff...couldn't name a single band that does it...I'm so uneducated!
Is it really that good? Cuz if it's like the stuff I've heard in the "B" movies, I ain't impressed

It's basic philosophy musically, is blending noise with music, a form of electronica. As the name implies, the "imagery" created is one of Industry or machines. Music for the modern industrial society.
Not sure if you would call "Art of Noise" an Industrial group (I had one of their tapes) but both owe partial allegiance to the text "Art of Noises".
But there was also a record company called "Industrial Records" and originally, it referred to artists on this label.

speaking of record labels... now the big one for industrial is Metropolis. Huge list of bands on their website.

Speaking of Kraftwerk, that reminds me of one of my favorite 80's groups "New Order"!!!
Their song "Blue Monday" begins with a sample of Kraftwerk's song "Uranium" off their "Radio-Activity" album.

Would the theme from the movie "Terminator" in any way fit the description of "industrial?
The dynamic, timbre, and meter of it always put me to mind of the noise that I've lived with in heavy industry 8 hours a day for most of my life.
I like it so much, that it's riveted firmly into my new bands songlist.

Haven't thought of Kraftwerk since the '80's..."Autoban" is all I can remember...never was a big fan or anything
So THAT's industrial, eh?

It can be. Industrial is kind of an umbrella term for early experimental music. It spans the gammut.

Yeah, I would consider that industrial.
You actually play that song on stage?

Yeah, Craig...Mortise IS "noisier" imo.
I'd play that stuff, what the heck. It's definitely danceable, something that I can't seem to produce in my own writings.
It would be rather jarring for ppl around here if I came up with a band like that...LOL..ppl who know me would never expect it

HowlinJ if you're interested, you might want to check out some of the heavy hitters in the Industrial genre, like KMFDM, Frontline Assembly, PIG, early NIN, Cannibal Buffet. I think it's far from an "umbrella", it has some specific treatments and cadances that mark it, including more than one innovation that stuck for other genres - like the distortion filter on the voice.
