Tired of Posers / 60+ Wanna be Rock Stars!!!
Posted: Sat Mar 22, 2008 4:27 amAs I get older I would hope that the musicians I run into would be satisfied just to Jam or play a small club once a month or so....after all none of us are going to be stars....especially at my age.
Case in point....I went to a rtythm guitar player / lead singer's house to Jam a couple of weeks ago....we had met via BandMix and he had sent me his set list of over 200 songs, most of which I knew and could play without ay problem. I got there and he started to lay out all his rules and regulations, he didn't like guys in his band to drink (though he chain-smoked) and we HAD to work exclusively from his list.
He did a couple of Neil Diamond songs and sounded just like him but on other songs...let me be kind...the ravages of smoking had caught up with him and he strained to hit most high notes. I sang a couple of songs including the Moody Blues "Nights in White Satin", far better than he ever could but at the end he informed me in no uncertain terms that this was also one of "his" songs and he intended to sing it if we formed a band.
He also informed me he wanted a girl singer in the band to sing an occassional song and sing back up. I don't know about you but I have always had poor experiences with females in a band...they rarely do their share, show up the last minute and expect the equiptment to be all set up for them and other assorted problems, I won't go into here. Well, we finished up the night and I left, and he was to send me a cut down list of 15 to 20 songs.
When I didn't hear from him in a week I sen him a follow utp e-mail to which I received no reply and then finally sent him an e-mail stating that althought we fit in very well musically, we didn't when it came to ideas of what a group should be...I wanted a more colaborative effort and he wanted a back up band. So the effort continues to find sane musicians who want to have some fun and play out once in a while. So if you have or know of a group looking for a bass player who can also sing lead and harmony vocals...PLEASE send them my way. Thanks for listening.....
