What happened to music that you could understand? Lyrics that were able to be understood? All this new "Anger Rock" and senseless screaming? A waste of air if you ask me...And please don't even get me started on hardcore "Rap".

Word.

Careful the forum is full of angry cats and they have had no catnip, thus Midol is the order of the day.

Real music went out the window a long time ago, along with lyrics. Meaningful lyrics were common from the 1920's-1990's. Then it all halted once 2000 hit.

Sadly talent has gone out the window, and the only talent that exist now is mainly from back then (Veteran bands, so to speak).

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

Hey Gang,

Sign of the times Im afraid...Most people I know under 35 reference video games as a large part of their musical upbringing...Yeah, we have a local messageboard and most under 30 have some kind of a hate or satan/death, kill, destroy connotation to their handle...I probably reached my musical maturity around 86 and pretty much established what I liked and disliked for life so I got in under the wire.. .. BUT, I think the dark side musicians have always been there. We're just able to hear about them and their genres' of music via the net...Im all for their freedom to express themselves through music..I just hate to see its obvious influence on society...Yep, Im afraid its here to stay so lets just enjoy spending our time talking /jammin/collaborating with our like minded friends both new and old...

I think Bach said that a few years ago. As you get older its always those damn kids fault. I can remember when I didnt trust anyone over twenty or that wore a cowboy hat. The more times change, the more they stay the same.

Well, I've got news for you.

Real music that means something "IS" coming back! I have been preaching this for awhile now, and this is proving to be true, more and more.

Someone wrote a comment in another thread about screamer bands, along the lines of "Well, people obviously like it, cause that's what they're playing everywhere!"

Well guys, that is a SURE sign that it is on the way out. When things are underground and spread by word of mouth, it is considered cutting edge. Then the immitators come along and suddenly rather that being "unique" any more, everyone copies the trendsetters, and you see the same thing EVERYWHERE, as copiers try to cut in on the action and play "follow the leader". This is a SURE sign that it is on the way out. Once it is THAT common, people flee or lose interest, and look for the next thing.

I think the fact that a young group like Panic At The Disco, shed their emo image and music style, and have brought out an album that is said to be classic rock based, is very telling. They became famous on their emo and theatrical style, and record companies usually sh*t their pants, when something that made money, particularly if it was what propelled them to stardom in the first place, suddenly gets switched to a completely different style. That band is too young to be out of their original contracts, which means the label was on board for this decision.

"The Killers" last album also, had much more in common with simple solid old-school rock, than the electronic dance oriented music they climbed to fame on.

Notice the trends, and then capitalize on them, BEFORE it is widely spread and used up.

Watch. Just watch.

Classic rock, 70's inspired kind of rock, is beginning a come back. Rock made people feel good from that decade. It said something. It meant something. It made people feel good. People are over the greed decade, they are over the angry sh*t. Everyone gets tired of being angry ALL the time. There is an election with the buzz word "change" going on right now. An unprecedented election. A woman and a black, have NEVER gotten this close to the presidency before. People are ready for a change in EVERY kind of way. The economy is suffering, people are worried about health care. They believe they are on the verge of making a difference in politics and having that trickle down to their own lives.

They want to feel good again.

It is that awesome classic rock groove, that makes people feel that way, carrying meaningful lyrics that actually say something. Who wants to be cynical ALL the time?

As society changes, so changes the music that is our soundtrack of life.

Life is changing, it's ready for a new soundtrack.

There's tons of good music out there. If you don't think so you're not looking hard enough or are just bitter. Support your local music scene!

I can only tell you my honest opinion, whether you like it not has nothing to do with me.

Panic at the disco feels like they are trying to recreate a Beatles album and to me, that's just suicidal.

There will never be another Beatles.

There is, and has always been, "good and bad" of everything. Every-ones trip is different. At one time or another it was fashionable, in my circle of closed minded friends, to dislike The Monkeys, The Bee Gees, The Village People, Boy George, Humperdink, Micheal , Madonna , Avril, ect. ect, ect. Still they Sold a hell of a lot more recordings the most all of us BandMixers. How bad could it really have been?.
There is more great music available to the average person to listen to today then ever before. Great old music in all genres are being rediscovered constantly and being reinterpreted by appreciative new artists. There are more great new composers today then any one person has time to listen to. Open your ears, brothers and sisters, and don't knock other peoples art out of hand. If you decide you really can't stand listening to something, then just don't. ....'nuff said...

I think Craig summed it up pretty good. Here today gone tomorrow. Music is always evolving and like it or not it's the younger kids that dictate what's popular at the time by playing the music, listening to the music and buying the music. Because you are 40 and only like classic rock has no relevance as you are not the target. It has always been that way and that's not going to change. That being said, classic rock and blues are my favorite music to play and listen to but kids my age don't play it, don't listen to it and don't buy it. Believe me, things will change as they always do in music. I'm sure that the screaming genre will fade and never stand the test of time as have Classic rock, blues and to a certain extent metal but it's here right now.

Music at any time is also a reflection of the age. When you hear so much anger, hate and violence in the music of the current time, it's because that's the world we are living in. Hate is increasing; malice, war, one on one vilolence is more acceptable. We have better than ever ways to communicate but we isolate instead in our iPod or text messaging bubbles. I can go on, but you get the idea.

The good part is that these things appear to happen in cycles. Things are changing because people are starting to get overloaded with media stimulus and discord. They are starting to seek connections again, on the personal, business and spiritual level. Last summer I attended an outdoor symphony concert featuring Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture, and what really struck me was that most of the audience were 20 somethings. And they were digging it. Real, up front and in your face performance again. No screaming, emo cocooning or iPod isolation for them.

Acoustic and acoustic fusion musics are happening again, largely for this reason. So take heart, as Socrates said "Nothing is constant but change" and this change is sorely needed.

I agree with Irminsul.. It's a f**k up world we live in and it is reflected in music.

Although, just because you hear heavy music with screaming vocals.. doesn't mean the message is negative...Granted a lot of it is.

I'm sorry but I like the heavy crunch, slick riffs, howling squeels.. and screaming music.. I don't listen to it or perform it to create a negative experience. It's just an awesome f**k sound.. If you don't like it you're probably just too old ;)

We don't even use profanity in our lyrics.. how f**k up is that!
