Any of you guitar heads on here I would highly recomend seeing Trower if he comes to your town.

Sweet, I'll see him here in Detroit on the 30th. I've seen Trower many times, always a great show. The first time I saw him was 1974 opening for King Crimson, wow. I recorded a cover of "Day of the Eagle", maybe I'll put up sometime.

I do not know who he is, but I hope you and your friend had an awesome time last night! (I read part of the article, I do not usually go into a whole article unless it is in my particular interest, no offense, lol).

I am seeing Petrucci, so I am happy enough, lol. Plus!!! My mom might get me tickets to see Eric Clapton! He is coming down to The Hard Rock.

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy. :D

Jimmy,

Id love to hear Day Of The Eagle. I guess I have always played it wrong. Trower uses his thumb over the top of the neck for the low E and A string. He is tuned down a whole step it sounded like, so I think hes playing it in the key of D whereas Ive played it in E for years. My friend whos a drummer commented on the way home that the way I always played it sounded a lot brighter and snappier than Trower, of course he wrote it. Then the slow part on the end sounded kind of funky, he didnt do those signature bends that I love. At this concert Day Of The Eagle was one of my lest favorite songs.

Enjoy the show, Trower was set up on the left this time, if you want to get up front. The club I went to was general admission with no chairs so you had to jockey for position. There was a lot of gray hair in the room so there was no moshing at this show.

GA, do yourself a favor and get "Bridge of Sighs". Critics hammered it at the time because of the Hendrix comparisons, but he really has his own style.

Trower does tune down to D live but the first two albums were recorded in standard tuning. "For Earth Below" was recorded in E flat.

I will post my version of "Day of the Eagle" later.

I will do myself a favor and take a listen, Jimmy. Thanks for the recommendation, man!

The more influences the better for me, lol. As an apprentice guitarist I will take all that I can get.

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

GA,

Trower is one of the great players of his era. Its blues-rock but he put his own style on it. He has great hand vibrato in his fretting hand. His music will seem a little slow to you. He just holds notes and lets them sustain forever. As far as I know hes always used Marshalls in his solo work. I think the album Bridge Of Sighs is one of the great classic rock albums for guitar. It should be in any serious rock guitarist collection.

Trower's impact on fat tone guitar playin' go's back a bit farther then that!
Check out the leadwork in "A Christmas Camel" from Procol Harum's 1967 debut album A Whiter Shade of Pale. I don't recall anybody else with a sound like that at that time! Hendrix maybe.
