Maybe this was asked already so forgive if so. I have for a few years now and it definately isn't the finest of quality but I have found that it is alot of fun. I learn about different styles and techniques with each musician I work with, that challenge alone is what drives me.
What about you?

I don't have all the tools to do that, but it would be very interesting to see how that would work. On one hand, it takes away the one on one or group dynamic in person. On the other hand, it broadens the prospect of finding like minded musicians with which to collaborate. Faith No More did it for a little while, in a way....

Collaborating on-line, an interesting prospect.

With on-line collaboration you don't have to put up with people showing up late (or not showing up), foul body order, farting, foul language, etc. Also you don't have to put up with hauling heavy equipment, dumbass bar owners, not getting any sleep after a late night gig, etc. I might be headed for on-line collaboration some day as in person collaboration seems to be getting harder and harder to accomplish. It's interesting that this topic rarely comes up . . .
.
My first collaboration was with a woman from Australia; two of my posted songs have her vocals.
.
Listen to "Molasses Blues," first.
That was the song I used to determine if collaboration would work ok for me. (When I'm done with my newer songs, I'll re-do it better).
.
So, ok, it works for me.
.
Next, I wanted to see how much I can do with a song, just using my home recording software.
That's when I recorded "Folks I Knew (If you Catch me Crying)."
. . . about 40 hours of mixing, alone . . .
The interesting thing is that she (Julie Jazz) is a BLues or Jazz singer, exclusively, and it was her first attempt at, ummm, whatever style if music it is . . .
Easy Listening, I guess, or maybe light rock. Folk?
Dunno . . .

Yeah, yeah . . . how sage . . .
You start a thread - then ignore the serious posts, and respond to the jokes instead?
Why start a topic on music if you don't want to talk about it?

I think you are way too serious. I was joking around with another person. I appologise if you think that I was ignoring you but I have already seen your collaboration in another thread and think that it is great! I colaborate with a few people and find it very exciting. I make music for the soul and have no interest in doing it as an occupation but those who do I greatly admire.
I love to create muisic, I love metal. IMO it is the greatest emotional outlet and a way to channel your own fears, anger, love, etc to others.
Collaboration Online is prefered by me but I do wish I could hook up with a few good NON-FLAKEY musicians to jam with again
Thank you for participating and remembr this is he internet you are allowed to have a sense of humor online as well as real life
PEACE!
Thom

All joking aside I actually WOULD be VERY interested in on-line collaboration. I would first have to learn how to do it because I'm not that knowledgable about computers and recording. I'm finding it very difficult to find the right guitarist right now. I might need to collaborate on-line in the future with an excellent blues guitarist. If anyone wants to try me out on vocals or bass (listen to my posted music on my profile page fisherman bob) I'd be happy to do it. I don't know why but the in-person band formation seems harder and harder to accomplish right now. Unfortuneately there's a lot of frustration with the live music scene, way too many bands and musicians trying to play in way too few places. On-line collaboration may be where I'm headed soon. later...

fisherman bob, all you need is a newer PC or recording device, recording software and a mic. to begin with
I use a mic, behringer mixer, a DigiTech Processor, routed to a PC . I record with Cool EDit Pro software to edit and master the tracks.
It's really easy and fun after you get it all down
