Yes I have been a member for a while now. I have been looking for a good singer for my band, we play all originals. mainly a few covers. I went ahead and paid for a premier account so I would be able to contact vocalist. have been contacting singers in my area I have e-mailed 6 or 8 people a couple of them twice, with my e-mail and phone number, And not one response, saying anything. Why would bother to even set up an account if your not going to respond to people that contact you. At the least e-mail back and say your not intrested. I feel like I wasted my money. It is like for example, putting your car or house in the classified to sell it and people call to buy it and you hang up on them. What the Hell. Doesn't make any sense to me. I am in New Orleans , If anyone is intrested. Check out my profile. Let me know if I an crazy or what. I don't know.

rocknrollova2,
Maybe if you put more info in your profile, you'll get a response. Ask your band members for ideas . . .
.
For instance:
For influences, you list "All good music." Oh?
Hmmm. What does that mean to YOU? Aerosmith? Liberace? Elvis Presly? Frank Sinatra? Def Lepeord? The Beatles? Madonna? Ramones? Miles Davis? Rolling Stones? U2? Cher? Grover Washington? Melanie? John Fogarty? Michael Jackson? Alan Jackson?
.
You see the point.
Everyone's idea of good music is different.
I think that, maybe, if you guys give people an idea of what YOU think is good music, you'll get a better response.
Good luck.
Lots of different ways to find singers

Band-Mix is a good sight for all the different info you can pick up in the bandmix forums, not just finding musicians. Perhaps the singers you contacted have already found bands, maybe they don't want to sing originals, who knows the different reasons. There's a lot of ways to find people. I've been in the music business for 25 years. Here's a few ways you might find a singer: music store bulletin boards, go to bars that have karaoke and listen to the singers, if you hear someone good introduce yourself. Contact all the people who give singing lessons and ask if they have any star pupils who might be interested in your band. Are there any colleges that have a strong music curriculum in your area? Most colleges have newsletters, you might be able to run a cheap classified ad telling people about your band. There's other websites: community musician, craig's list, etc. that have music calssified sections. What about an alternative newspaper in your area that has a lot of music coverage? How about running an ad in a classified only newspaper (like Thrifty Nickel)? Maybe you can lure a hot singer away from an area band. Anyway, I hope this helps. Later-Fisherman Bob

I understand your frustration. I, too, purchased a membership, hoping to be able to contact some musicians in my area, (Savannah, Georgia). I haven't had but one response from all the messages I sent.

I went with the freebie classified ad from fear of the same thing. I thought a capable singer was in high demand. Guess not!

Well I'm pleased to announce that I've already been contacted by a BANDMIX person to jam! That's after only about 2 weeks. AND I responded. But there are a lot of people in the Lansing, MI area in here, so maybe the odds are better of finding someone locally "compatible".
Also, maybe I'm more openminded in that I'm into multiple genres of music. So I will jam with anyone anytime anywhere (within reason). I've played/sang classic rock to Metal shred, Alt to Bluegrass, Blues to Standards to Country... it's all good.
I'm also not necessarily looking to play out (pay gig) right now, so there's no p-p-pressure. I don't have (too much of) an ego hang-up. Hey, you have to have some ego in this crazy business. But I've met some awesome musicians who just could not work with anyone (except themselves haha). Also, keep posting in the different forums (like this one) and people get to know more what you're about. Anyway, KEEP ON TRYING AND DON'T GIVE UP! The right people will find you and vice versa.

I too, have had one contact from Bandmix, and 3-4 contacts from a total of about 10 other sites.
.
People, if you don't get a response, don't blame Bandmix.com.
.
I've spent hours and hours searching the internet for musician's sites, and I think Bandmix is the best, by far.
.
Maybe there is no one nearby. Maybe they don't feel you are right for them, but they just don't want to tell you so.
.
I recommend you post a sound bite of some sort.
There is NO excuse to NOT post a sound bite.
There is a mic. input on every computer, and software that will let you record. This software is probably already on your computer. Take the time to look for it.
.
And, if you don't have a plug with an 1/8" input, you can buy adapteres at Radio Shack, for $5.
Don't all you guys with no sound bites posted have any ambition? If you don't know how, ask someone for help.
At LEAST record 30 seconds of something! Otherwise, other musicians may wonder why you haven't . . . .
.
Hmmm,
Hey, Billy, is CT too far from MI?

Wow! That woud be a long haul, but I really wish I could. Maybe someday we could get together.. that would be awesome!
You've conviced me to try to put some type of jam on this site. You guys might hear / see and say... "Oh noooo, it's Mr Bill!" and squish me! haha..
I'll try one through my cheapo webcam and see if it takes. Then I'll try to work up a few things of varied genres, if one works. But I don't know Bandmix limitations on:
(A) File size (3 megs?) and
(B) Free account

BillyR,
I've got a free account, too.
But I only have the cheapo - recorder that came w/ my computer.
I had to play with the volume input extensively . . .
Take a listen to the 2 Sound bites I recorded w/ a free account.
- I'd appreciate your reactions to each.
I recorded 2 different styles. I had a 3rd posted, but I decided to erase it, because it didn't really reflect my preferances in music . . .

Wow! Alan - Very cool tunes you have posted. My fav. is Frolicking Fingers. Great chords & chord progression. It would be cool if Bradley Boogie was longer, but I know now that the max on a free account is 5 meg.
I've posted a couple tunes now people can check out. I threw together a couple quick ones just to have something on here, to show I can play a little guitar. I am going to replace them after I clean em up. I wasn't sure of total file size when I recorded them, as the files compressed after creation. I'm using Cool Edit Pro 2 prog to record and using no external mic., just the comps built in one. The prog has a lot of very nice features (effects, multi-tracks, etc.) I'm just learning it, so I just recorded one track. I plan to record some better stuff and post them on my myspace.com account. Also I want to do about 5 quick tunes of 1 meg, for this site, to show different genres.
Tune 1.) Billy No Pick Blues: as the name implies, I had no pick handy so I fingerpicked & made up a quick tune about it. Listen quick because I think I'll replace it with another.
Tune 2.) Rock Musch? CAUTION! TURN DOWN YOUR SPEAKERS! I threw down this little shred thing after a few hours of playing, and my hand started cramping lol! (I also fingerpicked it) I called it "Musch" because it sounds like mush to me, but hey it was fun! Also I had a fan running next to me and that added to the noise factor. So this too will be replaced at a later time.
Have fun people & Check 'em out.

Hey, BillyR,
Thanks for the comments.
Frolicking Fingers is a lot of fun to play - I had been only playing it for a day or 2 when I recorded it.
And, now I can't play it for another week or so.
And I mean CAN'T. The day after I recorded it, I tore off part of a 'picking'-fingernail,' playing horse shoes. I can strum it, of course - but it's not the same.
I won't use fingerpicks.
I had the bass pattern for both songs in my head, before I put chords to them.
When I start hearing harmonies (in my mind) for a bass pattern, I sit down and look for the chords.
.
Hey, I'm no longer into heavy metal, but I liked your blues. I think it'd be fun to play the Bass for it.
Ps.
Hey, rocknrollova2!
Sorry about getting off-track! You haven't been around, and we just got to talking, is all.

Alan - Man you're quick! I already replaced "No Pick Blues" with "Fingerpickin' Good". It's kind of a boogie riff and more guitar run intensive. I think I'll keep that one on for a while. But I'll replace my shred with a cleaner version when I do one. And thanks for your comments too btw. Sorry about the injury, hope it heals quick.
Flesh Out Your Page

Dave (or orcknrollova2), Alan is right, you need to flesh out your band page a little bit. If you are paying for the page, use the expanded media upload. Let us hear how good you are. That is what I use my page for and I get calls frequently from it. Oh, and the cartoon looks cool. I assume you guys are all young and handsome, but what do you really look like? Upload some pics. On the verbiage, spill your guts a bit. Who really are your influences? At least name a few. I understand that your equipment is “everything needed”. What does that mean? For some people a 100 watt amp and 2-12” speakers is an OK PA. Do you guys all sing backup? A singer might want to know if there will be harmony. What is the name of the group again? Do you have booking contacts? Is there a promise of gigs on the horizon? How about the human side? Where have you been? What have you done? What are your aspirations? How old are you? Are you seeking a singer within a certain age group? Are you seeking a certain vocal style? Do you play rock or sissy music?
I hope I have not been too rough. My point is that you need to communicate a little about yourself. Check out my page. I’m an old fart and I still play bass, but in reading my page you get a good idea of where I have been and what I am looking for. I hope this helps. Rock out.

Hey, Steve,
Would you give my song "Frolicking Fingers" a Listen, too? It's only a 60 second clip.
I posted it some time ago, but nobody gave any reactions. A bunch of people read the post - I don't know how many listened . . .
.
I kind of hope you will, though, because you & I go back a long, long way.
What's it been, now - almost a week?
Thanks, anyway.
Alan
