I always love those first few seconds of a tune before the band kicks in, here's just a few of my all time faves
Long Cool Woman-The Hollies
The Last Time-The Rolling Stones
Up Around The Bend-CCR
Funk #49-The James Gang
Whole Lotta Love-Led Zeppelin
I Feel Fine-The Beatles
I could go on forever, but I'll stop the list there just to get the ball rolling

Any song of Metallica's. Lol. Their intros are the best. I like Lamb of God's intro to "Walk With Me In Hell." Also, another great, great, intro, is Mark Tremonti's intro for Creed's song "What if?"

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

I always liked Frank Zappa's intro to "Lonely Little Girl" from the album "We're Only In It For The Money".

I just thought of another one,

"New York City Blues" .....Yardbirds...not sure, but I think the guitar honors go to Jeff Beck on that one.

Dajax,
I always liked Dylan's original version of "All Along The Watchtower" the best, but that guitar work on your profile has me speechless!

Thanks Howlin' you know the funny thing is I really like the original version too, but figured that seeing as how that section I covered on the profile is really 4 different solos in a row it would be a good showcase for the pickin'

Another guitar intro I've always liked is Alabama by Neil Young. Too bad the drummer didn't turn off his snare though.

Pink Floyd - Sorrow, Have A Cigar
ZZ Top - Brown Sugar
It's not a guitar intro, but the Eagles "7 Bridges Road" acapella vocal intro is hard to beat
And Robin Trower - The Fool and Me

Dajax: Where in the world did you dredge up that old Supro? I'm jealous! My '73 Super Reverb would probably be found cowering in the corner... :D

EDIT: Forgot to add Day of the Eagle, Trower too.

Yep, Trower was always good for his intros. I like the one he did on Shame the Devil. I bought the Supro at Capsule Music in Toronto circa 2000 for the equivalent of about $325 U.S. at the time. It's an 88T model...2X12s driven by 2 6L6s. The slide section on that All Along The Watchtower sample on my profile is a Les Paul thru that amp turned up to 3 or so. Really nice clean tone, but past 8 it gets AMAZING overdrive

I like this thread,so "here goes another one"......... ,

I have finally decided that the award for the best guitar intro should go to "Peter Green" for the finest peice of "Controled Feedback" ever recorded ! The song,"The Supernatural". The record, the 1966 classic "A Hard Road", The band,"John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers".

On the subject of "Robin Trower"...... ,

I have always regarded Robin"s lead work in "Procol Harum"s A Christmas Camel (1967) as one of the finest solos ever!

Okay, those are great choices for intros, Citizen320. I am not familiar with Slayer's stuff, but the others I know.

The only one I can think of right now is Soundgarden's "Outshined." That has a short intro, but it rocks.

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.
