evening all i was watching the henry rollins show on tv and happened to catch "the mars volta" playing live and oh my god this has to be the worst live performance i have ever seen by any band, ive seen 15 year old garage bands(THAT CANT PLAY) that sound better than this tripe,it made the blood boil in my veins it was so bad.
everything is wrong with it, there out of time with each other, really sloppy nothing is in key and dont even get me started with the singer and on top of everything its about 10 minutes long.

ive only heard one or two of there recorded stuff and it was nothing special but not as bad as this but my wife said that the singers old band "at the drive in" had one or two good songs but ive never heard them so i can only base my view on this performance

if i could give advice to any young band its this ..watch this performance and NEVER EVER think you can get away with what these guys are trying to get away with...worst live performance EVER. :x

I have heard some bad sh*t before, but that is the worst ever. I could not even finish it it was that bad.

I do not know what that tuning was... I think it's called "WE DID NOT TUNE OUR GUITARS NOR ARE WE ACTUALLY MUSICIANS!" tuning. :D

Yeah, some bands just need to really be kicked off their record labels. This generation of music is crap. I have never heard a studio performance that bad, ever. Usually they are perfect, look at Dream Theater or Metallica's studio performances.

Bleh. I vote we sue that studio for letting them play! Just kidding, lol.

Hell, I could jam better than that. 8)

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

Lmao. That is the only time in history of guitar you hope for a magnetic shock to occur to stop the music (Do not want to kill the poor guy, but need a power failure, and perhaps a temporary state of unconsciousness, lol).

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

Too many pedals, megawatt amplifiers and PA's, too many different tones and frequencies, and NO IDEA HOW TO CONTROL ANY OF IT. I've seen it time and again where people are so into effects that THEY FORGET HOW TO PLAY MUSIC. They play stuff SO FUC*KING LOUD YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND THE VOCALS. Everyone's New Year's resolution should be QUIT MAKING NOISE AND START MAKING MUSIC. PERIOD.

yes this performance has proved that style(if you can even call it that) is by no means a substitute for content or talent or just about anything.
its heart breaking to know that the mars volta are making a buck with this crap,i would love to meet the record company guy who gave them the green light and have a little word in his shell like...followed by a swift kick to the "town halls".

See that's f**k as well, Mars Volta is not what you would think of as a "schlep" band.

bad night on the playground?

I saw this show and I kinda liked them. I dont know if I would buy it but it definitely wasnt the cookie cutter music you hear these days.

The guitarist and bass player had those huge effects racks. Can anyone tell me what kind of amps the guitarist on the left was using. Looked like some sort of Fender Tweeds, but I couldnt tell. Also that guitarist looked like he was in fast motion, like he was out of sync with the video going on around him.

I never understood the B-52s but thru the years I have grown found of them. There was another punk group X, I think that was off the wall.

I dont think there is a rule book that says how we are supposed to play and if people buy and support something like this, then I guess it has a place out there. I have really been enjoying Rollins show.

PS Mars Volta may suck, but they did a gig on Henrys show. Obviously a lot of us were watching, maybe we are doing the wrong thing.

well you can call me old school but i think you will find that there ARE rules you must follow when playing live and agin i am only speaking for myself but here goes,

1.you must be in tune.
2.you must be playing in the same key.
2.you must be in time with each other.
3.you must be all playing as a unit.
4.you must always be aware of what your doing and the others around you.

break any or all of these rules and your f ucked..end of story.

and for the record its not that there just "off the wall" ive loved many bands that would make most peoples ears bleed ie carcass, napalm death,e.n.t,boltthrower etc but you will find they all play as a band and not just a bunch of guys who look like there sucking there own cocks.

They opened for System of a Down when I saw them, not my cup of tea but they did have a lot of fans.

i hear what your saying jimmy but "westlife" an irish thrown together/made up boy band who dont play instruments or write music have had more number 1,s that the beatles...

i never have and never will judge a band by how many fans or tons of records they have sold or t-shirts or mousepads or edible underwear etc...if ya know what i mean.

i call em as i see em...
