Lol. Many people try and say Dave. It was James. Mustaine only sang for Megadeth, not Metallica. Maybe live once in a while he would fill in vocals, but that was about it to my knowledge. Hetfield had any awfully high voice back then, so it sounded similar to Dave's.

I love the siren at the end of "Escape," Gi. But my favorite song off of that album is "Fade to Black." On the other hand, "The Call of the Ktulu," was good, so was the song "Ride the Lightning," itself good. The best part of that song is right before the solo, the powerful/intense riff with the great drumming in the background. Also, Creeping Death rocked. I would just say I love the whole album, but there are a couple of songs I did not like, I think one was called "Trapped Under the Ice." Something like that.

I can play a good portion of "The Call of the Ktulu," and just about all of "Fade to Black."

strangely, everyone loves 'for whom the bell tolls'. its ok, but too SLOW, an adrenaline killer, compared to the rest of the album.

you dont like "trapped under ice"??? "I/AM DYING TO LIVE/CRY OUT....TRAPPED UNDER ICE!" metaphorically, thats my life story. haha.

im not even a huge metallica fan, but i like every song on that album except "fight fire with fire". i first heard "ride the lightning" around '88-- good times, glorious youth. (i never liked "kill em all" or "master of puppets". "garage days revisited" was great!).

i cant believe i dont have that album on cd. nowadays, though, i can only take so much metal before i need a tylenol.

last weekend, i saw "the Headbanger's Ball" on either MTV or MTV2 (it was at someone else's house. i dont have cable and probably never will want to pay for it). this was my first exposure to heavy metal since probably the mid 90s, when i finally gave up on it because it was dominated by bands whose music i just didnt like (ie. hated). i even thought pantera was lousy (and they seemed to be the most loved).

but the stuff on MTV wasnt bad at all! the age of the "growl" may be over- the vocalists were actually singing. the guitar playing was more complex than the repetitive phaser effects i heard through the 90s. i am by no means an expert on recent metal. all i can say is im glad something musically can still light my fire, so to speak. its great to have music get the blood flowing and the heart racing again.

A Master of Puppets hater, that is very rare. Lol.

As for the rest, yeah the metal has changed man. Trivium, Atreyu (Sort of metal at times, not exactly), Disturbed, etc... That is our metal now, Disturbed though comes from a while back, but they stick around. There is still a lot of screamers out, do not worry, they just did not show them. Lamb of God, Goatwhore (Lmao! What a name), and some other bands I cannot recall the names of, just plan out scream.

Screaming is good, as long as the music backs it up.

Our singer is a screamer. The vocals that really bug me is the "cookie monster" growling

i do like Disturbed a lot. i saw some of the tab i found on the internet but wasnt nterested. it doesnt look "fun" to play-- it looks like i would just unecessarily break strings. their music kicks ass, though ("the game" especially).

i can actually do the "oo WA AH AH AH" thing from "down with the sickness". years of practice in my shower.

to split hairs, though, would you consider Disturbed in the same vein as Goat Copulators from Hell, or whatever the name of that band is? i thought Disturbed (and Godsmack) led a new generation, called "Nu Metal", but that term had died away, i think.

Lmao, Rob Zombie has many more problems than that man. I still do not get how that is his brother from Powerman 5000, would never guess that in a million years.

I like their stuff, but like you, I do not want to blow strings to play it. I think Goatwhore is um, scary, and um, has no talent, lol. But Disturbed and Godsmack did make a new generation of metal which I think could be called "Nu Metal." Sully has a great voice that is rather unique, especially in songs like "Keep Away" and "I Stand Alone." David Draiman on the other hand has a pitch range that is outstanding... And I could practice singing that anywhere man and could not pull it off, first I cannot sing, second I do not want to shatter every mirror in the house.

Disturbed has some awesome stuff, they made a new song for the "Transformers" movie soundtrack (Well placed it onto the soundtrack anyhow), "This Moment." Damn that song rocked. I love that band.

I am a metal head, so I listen to a ton of it. However, I must admit, my second favorite band is probably Coldplay (Completely opposite of metal).

"Nu-metal" has such a negative stigma on it; it's really ridiculous. Bands like Disturbed and Godsmack aren't Nu-metal. They are simply hard rock. What do you consider hard rock? People's definition and understanding of genres seemed to die when the term "Nu-metal" was birthed. Nu-metal has no true definition and for some reason, people seem to like to categorize every remotely heavy band since the early 90's under "Nu-Metal." Nu-Metal, at it's best "definition" is an amalgam of elements from various genres from heavy metal to hip-hop. But then you have all these sub-genres like Rapcore, Alternative Metal, etc. Where in Godsmack's or Disturbed's music do you hear hip-hop or experimental sounds? I don't blame anyone in particular for having a misunderstanding of just what Nu-Metal is because I think the term in and of itself is stupid and it truly has no definition; only a stigma.

Personally, I love many of the bands that are encompassed by the term "Nu-Metal" and I likewise dig most of the bands that are wrongfully considered Nu-Metal, such as Disturbed, Sevendust, Chevelle, Godsmack, etc.

It seems as though many people can't discern Nu-Metal bands from Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. Likewise, with all the freakin' sub-genres that exist, I'm surprised people categorize ANYTHING right these days. lol. I could go on and on for days spewing my useless opinion on the topics of Nu-Metal and the obfuscation of genres and sub-genres but I digress...

I would consider Disturbed metal, not hard rock, actually, never hard rock. But according to that site we are both right.

As for Godsmack, they are considered post-grunge, heavy metal, nu-metal, and hard rock. This I would agree with, it is also according to Wikipedia.

So it looks like we are both right, they are hard rock and metal.

I am not too familiar with the term "Nu-Metal." Despite this though, I do see them as forms of Metal. When you think hard rock your mind goes to certain things of Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, etc... Actually, they are listed as being Heavy Metal (Now talk about odd compared to todays standards!), I hear from my mother they were considered a form of heavy metal in that time because they had a heavier sound than most of the bands. I would look at Black Sabbath as heavy metal, now they could double as Goth Metal.

Oh well, in the end it is just a genre. It does not make the band, it is the band that makes the band. All those bands I listed above rock or rocked at one time.
