Maybe this should go somewhere else.

Last night I took the kids to see Transiberian Orchestra at the Fed Ex Forum in Memphis TN. These guys sold the place out and had one of the best light shows Ive ever seen. They sounded great, not too loud, the level they played at allowed a lot of dynamic range. The guitarist were topnotch and the group seemed to be having a good time. If you are looking for an entertaining pro show to go to I recomend these guys.

But thats not really what this post is about. When I researched them, this show started as a group called Savatage. A few years back they recorded Christmas in Sarejevo(not sure of the spelling). For me it was Carol Of The Bells rocked out. Anyway this song became a minor hit and they decided to put on a Christmas concert. One thing led to another and now they have 2 touring companies and are probably the top grossing act in the country around this time of the year. I guess they mothballed Savatage and now this unit TSO is a full time job. I just thought it was cool that they thought outside the box and came up with a way to make a good living in the industry. Killer lights, killer sound and for all purposes the show is a spotlight for heavy guitar work.

Maybe drawing attention to this might open the thought process of someone on here to do something a little different in order to make it.

Thanks for posting that. I love seeing how creative musicians can get in pursuing their own ends, and how they can create new venues for what they do.

Be sure and bring this up the next time someone starts podium pounding about the only possible way to "make it" is to play the bar circuit.

I have liked this band for a few years but haven't been able to see them live myself, just never worked out. But the combo of classical instruments and a rock group playing together lends itself to great arrangements.

I have a coworker who fancies himself "above" my pedestrian tastes in music, and he says they are the "hooked on classics" for a new age. But oh well, to each his own.

Glad you enjoyed the show, I'll make it someday to see them in concert.

My wife and I saw TSO at the Resch Center in Green Bay last year on Christmas eve I believe it was. They killed. The problem was the crowd. People up are very conservative so the band is wailing and there is not sound. They finish, everyone gives them a golf clap, the next tune starts and silence again. The band was even looking arond like what the Hell?

So the band actually said feel free to make as much noise as you want etc. so toward the end of the show the crowd loosened up a little.

I talked to a bunch a people after the show and everyone said they were great, so it wasn't that they were not well received.

That's really odd. Whenever I have seen a metal-ish or hard rock band in public, the crowds respond appropriately for that style of act no matter how big in number they are. Sort of an expected response, I would think, by now.

Is this Resch Center a reglious oriented facility?

IMO TSO was way over the top for most people up here. Case and point. I saw the Fabulous Thunderbirds at the House of Blues in Chicago. They tore the place apart. They were phenominal and I didn't think they were that good untill seeing them live. I then saw them at the Weidner Center in Green Bay and I was expecting them to tear it up again right? Snooze. I don't think their guitarist did one solo the whole night. They totally toned down the set.

I couldn't believe the difference.

Well, I don't classify TSO as a "metal band".

Not metal in the modern sense of the word but they do have elements of that in their music, as well as classical and hard rock. I can't wait to see them!
