From the covers VS originals discussion, it was mentioned that you have to play a few covers before throwing something at them that they "never even heard of before"
I posted a video of our song "Fly" that our band threw in as an encore song when we played a Battle of the Bands at Vinyl in Atlanta. We only practiced it a few times before trying it that night, and NO ONE there had EVER heard it before.
See if they needed a "cover" to warm them up to it or not...

Lyrics
Fly © 1993 Craig Maxim
Heavenly Father, what have you done?
Seems this prayer, woah yeah, well it's a common one
Well I have found, Blame to go around to everyone
So you've been hurt my friend, But you gotta trust again
Like it's the only time
You ever let love shine
-------- CHORUS --------
Fly - Fly until tomorrow
And dream - Until the dream comes true
What else can we do?
Until the morning, catches up with you
-------------------------------
Sometime it seems, This world is just a lie
We claw our way, Scratch each other's face to ride that tide
When what we need, Yeah, is less of greed, and more of pride
So take each other's hand, We'll fly to the promised land
Well it's a lovely ride
On the love inside
CHORUS
BREAK
CHORUS

Bravo! Very nice.... but I'm getting the feeling this was directed at me.... Whenever we played in any battle of the bands type venues, we never... and I mean NEVER played a copy! We've won quite a few of them back a while and those were the gigs that we played all our originals at! There were cover clubs and then there were strictly original clubs.... We were starving and poor so we played more of the cover clubs because they paid 4x's as much as the original venues!
