LOL I'm bored at work......

I'm into music man!! Umm, I'm in a hardcore band right now, doing all originals. Somewhat comparable to Killswitch Engage, Devil Driver stuff like that..

I also attend a open mic night quite often and do some accoustic covers, stuff like Marcy Playground, 3 Doors Down... more easy listening stuff..

I've been playing guitar for about 16 years now, I also play a little drums, Piano and bass of course.. I've even played an accordian a few times.. but shhh that's a secret.

I have a cheap Ibanez accoustic/Electric (Performer model) and my a Zakk Epi paired with a Line6 SpiderIII HD150

Yea man I would keep the accordian thing a secret. LOL

Your in a hardcore band? I never could get into hardcore. Not that I have anything against it. I don't think I could name a hardcore band to tell you the truth. I have heard of killswitch come to think of it but I think that is about it.

What is it you like about playing hardcore?

That's a good question....

Especially because I'm 33 and it's generally a younger crowd. But I like the fast beats, the chunky guitar rythms (I'm a rythm player) and the dark angry side of the music.

I wasn't much into the screamo kind of stuff untill we got together and started writing. Our singer is amazing, he can go all night screaming and never crack.

We actually wrote a slower song last night that is a little different that our other 3 songs.

If you was to hang with me you would notice my musical taste is geared more to stuff like Chevelle, Alice in Chains, Megadeth, System of a Down, White Stripes, Disturbed, Creed.. etc.


I really like all kinds of music.

i knew of Killswitch Engage but never heard them until i looked for "holy diver" on youtube. KE did a cover of the Dio classic, and a good one at that. the vocalist (the black guy-- im not sure if he replaced the white guy, or vice versa) has an impressive range in that song.

fast fret-- you play hardcore what? metal, punk..? i cant judge what i dont know-- the closest ive come to it is "the needle lies" and "blinded" by queensryche (which you prob. think is not "hardcore"), and early anthraxx (the album w/ "Indians" and "N.F.L.").

what/who do you cite as influences, fastfrets? curious.

im weird-- i like accordion because i actually like polka music. no, im not kidding, not trying to be funny, and im not on hallucinogens. i can take it in small doses, probably an hour at most. its a long story as to how ive come to enjoy polka.

Hardcore... ummm, Fast and alot of screaming. A good comparison would be "BloodSimple"

Screamo maybe?

Death Metal?

I dunno it's hard to figure what alot of musical genres are.. and where to "insert ours"

We're doing the KE version of "Holy Diver" but with the original Dio style vocals..Sounding good though

wegman-- dont you agree its whats in your head that might predict what kind of music you create? or do you think bands, once they make it to a label and to some amount of commercial viability, tune in to what they think their audience or the masses in general want to hear?

That's a good question.

I have heard horror stories of when a band makes it and then has to deal with the record company.

Conventional wisdom would say it is what is in some ones head that got them to where they are but I don't know if that holds true once they are there.

Wegman, Gi, I have heard that as well. These records hold tight grips on their bands. Actually, I have a great example for you. Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and Audioslave actually quit Audioslave because of record label restraints. The label wanted them to play what they said to play, but he refused (Good for him!). Thus, leading to the break up of that band. At least that it what I heard, I could be wrong somewhat on this, but if it is true, hey, that is what happens.

Gi, Disturbed rocks (I was not familiar with this whole hardcore genre until you guys started naming bands). I love David Draiman's vocals.

As far as Dio goes, I have not really listened to his stuff. I just know he worked with Tony Iommi (Awesome for a guitarist with cut off finger tips!). You know who is another good band (Not hardcore, but I must say this), Fleetwood Mac, great vocals, great guitarist. Just thought I would throw that in there.

sorry to be annoying with point-by-point comments, but...

-i had NO IDEA that tony iommi's fingertips were, um, somehow removed.

- Dio (the man) with Black Sabbath was responsible for, in my opinion, the best Black Sabbath album, "Mob Rules". My wacko sibling who is in what i call a cult once said it was evil because the Bible (which im not knocking) refers to "mob" as the devil, or something like that. those were probably the only words he spoke to me in that week, because he was just so mean, pompous, and miserable (yes, a born-again christian). "Thanks for the news of my damnation. You have a nice day, too!"

-Dio's (the band of that name) first two albums back in '83 and '84 are classic. even the non-heavy guys here would appreciate them, i think. to todays standards, though, the music isnt unbearably heavy and inlistenable, like it may have been to some people back then who werent used to it.

-Fleetwood Mac- they put out tons of great songs up to the 80s. i think they are one of the few bands that could make EVERY song on an album a good one, for at least 3 albums in a row.

i guess i should start working now... although talking music and guitar is much more fun.

Yeah, Iommi lost his fingers (Never knew if it was his fretting hand or picking hand, I think picking) in a saw accident at a cutting factory. His fingertips got cut off, so he quit guitar for some time, and then was inspired to pick it back up and get false fingertips and start playing. It must be his picking hand, if it was his fretting hand I would think the false finger tips would never work. *Shrug*

As far as Dio goes, I will check him out later, man. I do not know much about him. He looked like a strange guy and I forgot he sang in Sabbath after Ozzy. Whoops. Lol.

And yes, I know how you feel, work sucks at times. I rather hang out here typing too.

As far as bands making an album with every song on it good..

My only vote would be Disturbed- The Sickness

Every song on that album kicks ass. I was never much into FleetwoodMac, they were a little before my time.

I think record labels have a MAJOR influence on an artists/Bands music but the biggest changes seem to be in the rock/metal industry. I think they all end up toning it down once they get there.

I especially like the early Fleetwood Mac when Peter Greene was in the band.
