Had a profile on here that we need a new key player for our Classic Rock/ Blues Rock band. No hits yet so it can't hurt to mention it here too.
Is there nobody out there? We have a great group of people that enjoy what we do and only do this to have some fun. No pressure to gig every weekend, keep your family or your job or your other gig going.
We have a PA and lights plus a great practice facility.
Anyone?

We keyboardists are stuck in a predicament. There are actually alot of us, but we don't like much being told what to do. There often seems to be a rub with the lead guitarist, or singer....and then they are out again looking for another keyboardist, crying about how there aren't any.
And the beat goes on.

Not to toot our own horn but we are lucky enough to have a really great group of people, no egos allowed. Of course maybe cuz none of us think we're "all that" and we all realize the sum of what comes out is more important.
You have a long enough extension cord?

LOL .... I think a 2000 mile chord might break you with the price of copper today. Sounds like your band has a good attitude.

Are you sure about that? I've never met a performer without an ego. In fact, it's a job requirement isn't it?

Not in our world it isn't
Nope, our most heated discussions are usually over song choices and scheduling. 3 years with this lineup and can't think of one fight that's been had over someone's "better than you" attitude.

Oh I see what you mean...you don't have "out of control" egos. Well that's good. Because you have to have an ego to even set foot on stage. Ego is wonderful servant but a terrible master.

I've played in lots of bands with small egos that don't get in the way of the music ... if I see big egos coming on, I'm out of there and in 40 year I've only had to do that twice. I think you must be getting hooked up with the wrong players or you've had a bad experience and it’s left you cynical.
There are a lot of humble players out here IMO. I find that it's the want-a-be players that have the biggest egos, the player that know their sh*t are usually the easiest to work with ... they have nothing to prove and are willing to share what they know. We all have egos ... it's the size that matters.

Prevost82, you said:

.
That has been my experience, also.

That's exactly what I was getting at. Well, scratch that, it was sort of what I was getting at. You can have a big ego too, and if you have a good hefty leash on it, you'll be just fine. In fact, you'll probably dare sh*t that most others wouldn't dream of doing.

So it all boils down to "size really does matter..."
We're all just working 40 something's who happen to play music as a hobby, no "over the top" allowed.

Yeah I understand that. I just think ego gets a bad rap these days because its misunderstood. I don't know a single musician without one, but I do know a few who let their egos run them as opposed to the other way around.
No musician would step on stage, or pick up an instrument, or begin to write a piece - no writer would would sit at a keyboard - no poet would open their mouths - no dancer would walk out in front of an audience without an ego.

Never thought of it that way, but to take it a step further everyone has an "ego" to define who they are.
Some people are just a**holes, musician or not
