Hi, I'm new here. Just wanted to try the forum a little bit. I am a guitarist in the Grand Rapids, MI area. The band I'm in is looking for a female lead vocalist, so this seemed like a good place to find one. We do mostly classic rock, but also funk, R&B and blues. I was born and raised in Kentucky, so I lost most of my lifelong music contacts when I moved to Michigan. I'm trying to establish some new contacts (kinda starting from scratch I guess...). Anyway, thanks in advance for any tips or advice!

Just be aware...

There are a few loose cannons around here.

Take it with a grain of salt, most people on these boards
are good people, and there are plenty with good musical
experience to share.

Welcome.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Yeah, I had some really great contacts back in KY, so starting over kinda sucks. But I've met some awesome musicians and quality people since I've been here. Being from the hills of KY, I hope you'll forgive me, but about all I know how to do on the computer is type...no really cool myspace page or anything.

But I CAN play.

Thanks again for the welcome!

U.P. huh? I LOVE it up there! We camp there every year for a couple of weeks. We go thru Newberry most often cause we camp at Muskallonge State Park a lot. Were you affected by the big fire this past summer? We were at Muskallonge and had trouble going anywhere because so many of the roads were closed down.

Anyway, yeah, wish you were closer to GR too...thanks for the welcome!

Yeah -- the U.P. is a nice place to visit -- but it really sucks to live here! :?

The fire didn't really affect me to much -- Could see the smoke and smell it sometimes -- The helicopters and stuff flew over my house all the time -but, I would run outside with my binoculars to check em out and see if I could see the dudes inside  !!
Oh the ways you entertain yourself when you're stranded on a deserted Island!!

I guess the only time it affected me was on my Anniversary in Aug. -
My husband and I were married out at the Tahquamenon Falls - we go there every year on our Anniversary for dinner -- but was unable to because of the road closure!! :(

If ya come around sometime -- you should let me know -- would be nice to meet ya -- maybe we could jam or something for fun!!

My mom used to live in Grand Rapids a few years back -- We came down to visit her at Christmas -- My brother, sister n Law & I went out one night -- to the "Traffic Jam"!! We had a BLAST!! Very kewl bar!! :D
I have a girlfriend that lives around there now -- her name is Amy Bailey -
would you by chance know her??

Nope, don't know her. We live way out in the sticks though...

Yeah, we tried to go to Tahquamenon from Musky Lake SP and all roads leading there were closed. When we left for home, the fire had already burned up over 10,000 acres (and only managed to burn down ONE hunting shack!) Ha ha! Only in da U.P., eh...

  That's it too!!

I think the fire burned around 15,000 Acres total -- or around there - luckily it was out in the marshy area..... and no one was killed or injured!
That fire was the most excitement this town has seen in a very looonnnnggg time!! :D

Like I say... if ya happen to come around again -- let me know! 8)
