Does anyone else have this problem? I'm sure the I am not the only one, but I was just curious if there is anything I can do about it or do I have to just deal with it (which is what I've been doing for many many months). The one in my band who is lazy is my singer. We are the only two members of our band who have the means to pull a trailer and I am the only one who pulls it every time we have a gig. My truck was put in the shop today (I have been told I've been putting much stress on the engine, possibly from pulling a heavy trailer every weekend) and my singer told me to find another truck to pull it. He also never stays after a gig to help load up. If anyone has any suggestions please share them with me. I'm seriously thinking about quitting because I'm tired of being the only one to go the extra mile but I hate to quit because of one person.

Here's an idea that has worked for me in the past. To get a lead singer to help pack up, don't pay him/her until everything is loaded. That way, he/she has to either sit there and watch, and hopefully feel obligated to help, or they might get the idea if they help, then they will get paid quicker and be able to leave.

Yeah; do that . . . it might work.
But . . . in the mean-time, if I were you, I'd be looking everywhere for a new singer or a new band.
You don't have to tell them you're looking: keep it to yourself.
Make up a card, and hand two to everyone you know . . . and everyone you don't know, too . . . you might get lucky.

Hooo boy. First thing you do is kick that mofo to the curb. Come on, nobody is worth that. It really gripes me to see supposed adults having to be asked or TOLD to help with the band labor. Good christ, how old is he?

I played with 2 others for a few years. The one guy played guitar and was difficult to deal with. He couldn't even play in the same genre, let alone the same key.

WE used to practice on sat or sun am till 2pmish, but he started showing up at 1 pm as he was busy being drunk the night before and couldn't get out of bed.

I just got tired of coping with him and his lazy ass and left the band, period.

He was good and fun to play with, but f**k him. Now he plays bass with Dave Cahill and the Almighty Terribles. I think the band is aptly named. lol

But to be fair to Dave Cahill, I am not into gypsy jazz in any case, so..

Thats an age old dilemma.
The way i feel about? if you disappear into the woodwork when loadings involved...you have no business being in a band. Though i will admit, i've gotten sidetracked on occassion and others helped me out.

Yeah - I don't know how to answer that one! I'm a singer and I've NEVER been like that!!

I ALWAYS helped haul equip in & out and I usually took care of the cords at the end too --

You could always give the ultimatum -- point blank --
either shape up & help out or ship out -- let him take his pick!

YEAH THATS SOME BULLSHIT THAT HE WONT HELP YOU. MYSELF ID BE LOOKING FOR A NEW SINGER/BAND OR TELL THE SON OF A BITCH TO MAYBE DEDICATE HIMSELF AND STOP THINKING BOUT HIMSELF! YEAH AND ITS NOT BEING AN ASSHOLE CAUSE ITS TRUE!

Some great ideas here pretty well cover this situation to a tee. I think we've all had our share of bad experiences. Just goes to show how much work is involved from start to finish with any band.

Maybe I'm not getting paid for it, but I'm still playing music, and learning new songs, to boot . . .

That's why I'm performing all my own music from home.I'm sick of being rejected by musicians who claims they wanna jam or start a band.As soon as my desk top gets an internet port I'm home recording demos and gonna promote the disks my damn self.
