What kind of system/speakers are you using as a reference? Are you using stock laptop/PC speakers? Are you using near field monitors?

Just curious...

My Laptop and Recording PC are hooked up (firewire) to a Motu 828mk2 and am using a set of BX8a's which sound great. For the money the BX8a's can't be beat! I think they have a more true low end response compared to the Yamahas and Events. What you hear is what you get!

I just hooked up a Logitech X-540 system to my home computer, now i just have to install a soundblaster card...yeah i went cheap.
Have to conserve a little for the Genz-Benz GBE600 head i just ordered. (don't look for it, they're discontinued)

I seen a Bose computer surround system for $300...i wanted it...but.

EDIT: Turk you have a full on recording studio, i thought you meant just for your personal computer use.

Wow, thanks for the compliment. Don't be so sure you can't do this...it's amazing what the right tools can open up for you. If you want to electronica, I highly suggest a program called Fruity Loops. Despite the goofy name, it is a totally encapsulated music creation package with a lot of software synths, editing and effects. The learning curve is a bit dippy but you'll be up and writing in almost no time.

Fruity Loops... I think I played with that before. I think it came with a Cakewalk program or a Sound Forge program I have.
I use Sonar 6 Producer for all my recording. It has sooo many sampled and midi stuff on it I don't know where to start. I mean, I understand that you can change the sound of any midi generated note just by assigning a different patch. I also played with the piano key looking thing to play the sounds. Me being a drummer it just seems so hard to write a basic drum pattern.
I guess like you say... I just need the right tools to make it happen.
I'd really like to write some stuff like Skinny Puppy. I do have a keyboard
that has midi ports... Hmmmm.
