I am trying to learn Rain Song, but never have played with a Gsus4th open tuning..they say it cant be done in standard tuning.. probably shouldn't post this, but how do you guys do Rain Song? would love to hear somebody's version..I ll keep working on it until I either go insane or master it..

FOR REFERENCE ONLY!..just to show how far I ve gotten and still not note for note..hopefully will get there.. but I reiterate,, playing open tuning is alien to me..you just cant grasp for notes cause they aint in their ususal places.. :)

I learned it from a book I got in 1990 when I was a sophomore in high school and second year classical guitar student. A lot of tricky fingerings but it could be done, at least the version I had. When I listened to the live version on TSRTS I heard it start in A and let out some curse words. :lol:

Great song - but who's going to sing it with anything close to what it should sound like.?

Ok..taking too much time eating it out..so I found this Robert Crispy guy on YouTube who has broken the tune up into 3 separate tutorials..just about got it all except for the last fingerpicking thing at coda..got about 2 hours into this..it is sorta tricky and you had better no how t o finger some funky chords with hard stretches..
But got to get back to winterizing well house with sheet foam insulation.. :?

@schmeedy..I saw links to Standard tuning versions but did not go to hear any of them..hoping Cdaddy Planetguy, r yod or Haley will post their versions..just to hear the nuances they might impart into the tune..

Put J.S. Bach Bouree on the back burner..this tune is considerably easier technique-wise..that Bach guy jumps around a lot with those couplets on lute :lol:

Dayne, the track is private. I've clicked on it twice. I'm sorry you wasted my time on this :roll:

Link?did not realize private meant nobody can view it?.oh well it was rough..I need to get a decent AKG condenser Mic for the new Yamaha guitar..which was played using the Mic on Gas can DR05..sad to think I have No good mics to record acoustic guitar..audio technical Mic and the sm58 don't pickup for shut..No way am I paying 199.00 for a Baggs pickup + co s t to install..

Phreaking went out and measured a 39x75x70 inch piece of foam cut it and installed it and sweating like a -_ at Lincolns election trying to drive those plastic capped ring shank nails (aluminum nails lol) into those CCA treated boards ..cool in here but shut ain't getting done as fast as it could be..lol

alright schmeddy,, it is now public as a reference..I will get it smooth and actually figure out the ending finger picking thing..ad libed..also shortcuts on this but again want to hear other peoples renditions..especially hearing somebody performing it in standard tuning.. this is a Gsus4th open tuning ..

sounds ok Dayne. give me the tuning. I played it in standard. this was what I played every time I picked up a guitar for about a decade before I finally developed some of my own sh*t. also, I see Bassbomb still in your liked tracks. you need to unlike it, as we previously discussed, or it will chase away your listeners. :wink:

6th= D
5th= G
4th= C
3rd=G
2nd= C
1st=D
well.. not ok yet..just started learning it..it will get smooth eventually..plus like Joel Clyde said, you have to arrange for solo instrument..with Faron in it, if he likes that is..it (the arrangement) will change again.. I should just stick to blues chords..major.. minor.. dominant 7ths etc.LOL
