Every few weeks I'll be pre-releasing a song from my upcoming album via youtube. Here's the first one.

I've always said that it's not about the money-income from music that's important, but if I can touch the heart of just one person with a song, it makes it all worthwhile. Luckily, I have had many people let me know that one or another of my songs has hit them that way.
This past Saturday I did a 2 hour campfire 'show', and ended it with this song. When I was done one of my oldest friends (both ways - known him for over 30 years and he's 70 years old now) came up to me with tears in his eyes (he's a veteran) to ask me about this song.

Yow! I checked this mix last night in mono for any phase issues, and ... WOOPS! I used something called a 'mid/side/decoder' on the acoustic guitar track, something I had found that gave a single-mic acoustic panned in the center a lot of 'width' in the mix. What I didn't know is it inverts the phase on the right channel, so when the mix is collapsed to mono, the guitar disappears from the mix! So if you listened to this on a phone (for example), the guitar won't be there. Will be looking for a way to give the guitar track some width without doing this, have 2 other songs where I used the same plug-in that need to get adjusted too.

Good on you. I liked doing this kind of thing as I matured in composing for other instruments than guitar. Every song has a mission.

I like it Mike...
You know how tempting it is to say what you would do different to someone else song... but I'll steer clear from that unless you want some discussion on it. Really just the lyric... although wouldn't have minded to hear an electric solo of some kind on the outro... your voice works well on this including your harmonies.
