Actually, well-known rock cover songs work best at the bar open mics. Songs like this last one are better at listening rooms.

I appreciate the stripped down take of a tune like that.. I'd pay attention if I see someone performing a tune and you get the emotion from it.

But you're speaking from a musician perspective. As a performer (to non-musicians) you do need to pick and choose based on the environment.
I've played this song twice at shows in the last 10 days - both coffee shops, but the first time was a 'feature' spot at a place that IS a listening room. The other time was a 2 hour show at a busy place where 80% of the people are in-and-out getting their caffeine. Guess where the song got applause, and where it got ignored (and where cover songs got the most applause)?
