great stuff.

like many, my first exposure to Wes was those commercial and over produced CTI albums that Creed Taylor produced in the '60s. Wes had this HUUUUUUUGE, round, and fat tone on those records.

later when i got exposed to his earlier stuff and especially his live recordings, it surprised how much more "cutting" his tone was.

dunno if i agree w the premise of Wes being an "innovator". Absolutely phenomenal player....but really, he just built on what Charlie Christian and Barney Kessel were doing before him and just took it to another level.
