Bill (PJAZZ bassman) brought out his PRO TOOLS rig for Wed's gig. He's been having some problems w glitches after updating to the latest version and wanted to see if he'd gotten all the bugs worked out. Well...not quite. It is a pretty good live recording, though.

He's gonna try again tonight when we play in our quartet lineup w our saxman/clarinetist.

The tune here is "Coconut".....one of Bill's.

I tried doing the limbo to it but now I'm in traction at St. Joseph's! 8)

Mark

Unfortunately my attorney is a lovely young female who likes to dance. She had foolishly asked me, "So Talbot, what is the limbo, I have to try it!"

She is in the room next to mine but the quacks are sure she will recover!

....and let me guess, MT....they're much less confident in YOU'RE chances of recovery? Speedy or otherwise!

And I'm guessing you don't win many arguments w your young lawyer. I'm just hoping she doesn't bill by the hr! :D

Always the drama.

It doesn't always have to be "I DON'T HATE YOU, PG!" or " PG HATES ME!".

It doesn't always have to be "General Hospital" or "Days Of Our Lives".

Why not just go w straight up compliment (or critique).... Or keep it light and breezy like MT?

All that aside.... Thanks for checking out the tunes and thanks for the kind and generous words. 8)

Yeah you are right.
Just remember to vote for a good republican like Gary Burton next time.

Wheeling thru Wheeling W VA on our way see my folks in NY w the Mrs behind the wheel, so I have some time to talk music.

Funny you brought up GB because I was planning to quote him. Besides being one of the best to stand behind those 37 bars of steel, he has a long history as an educator.

Lots of good YouTube videos of him in that capacity doing workshops.

I already wanted to address your comment, about "vibes not being easy" and the GB reference is the perfect lead in.

I've always said playing vibes is like chess.....easy to learn but hard to master. (As if you can EVER master ANY instr)

GB has this rap about vibes being the only inst that someone can just start playing and sound passable on straight away. No embouchure to develop, no fretboard to learn, etc.

The big thing that limits my knowledge of playing vibes is it a mallet instrument. It is not a piano. And I have only limited experience even pounding a few keys.
Let me tell you I have fond memories of Milt Jackson sitting in a small 50 person club and watching him smile everytime he played something HE LIKED. What a GREAT MUSICIAN.
GB. I was blessed to see him give a concert in Copley Square in Boston. Back in 80... 95 degree temps, summer.
His band was taking breaks left and right... GB Just kept playing on and on. He was creating new songs in front of everyone. Then he was going back and jamming over them until his band had to come back and embellish them.

I have never seen anything like that again, and there were about 10 thousand people that filled that square. It was packed. Very few left. Thats my Gary Burton story. I hope you understand why I would even take a few minutes to share it with you.GB made his vibes sound like pure magic .
