Thought this was interesting clarity
Fact #6:
Most people listen to music on YouTube. Yet, according to the IFPI, the service doesn’t pay a fair value to the music industry.
Last month, 85% of YouTube users used the site for music. It has an estimated 1.3 billion users.
Per user, however, YouTube pays less than a dollar annually to the music industry. Spotify, on the other hand, pays the music industry an estimated $20 per user. The IFPI also added that very few users discover music on YouTube. A whopping 76% of all YouTube music users listen to songs that they already know.

Not surprising to me at all. More often than not I use YT to find a song to listen to (when I'm learning a ne cover song, usually), rather than Spotify, as it's easier. And I'm well aware that YT's streaming payouts are microscopic compared to the miniscule Spotify payouts. Good clarification, though.

Fact #4: Almost every paid audio streamer uses their smartphone to listen to music.
Today, more people from around the world prefer listening to music on their smartphone. The IFPI saw this increase across all age groups from 16 to 54.
In reported smartphone usage for music, Mexico came in first place. 91% of all Mexican consumers use their smartphones to listen to their favorite tracks. Brazil and South Korea ranked behind Mexico with 85% and 80%, respectively. The United States came in seventh with 63% of consumers listening to music through their smartphones. Canada and Japan took the final spots with 52% and 44%, respectively.
The IFPI also noted that 90% of all paid audio streamers use a smartphone for music listening.

I use my phone for carrying music with me, but don't stream on the phone much. That requires a good cell phone signal and data.
South Carolina seems like cell phone hell....or serenity heaven depending on one's perspective.
Anyone here listen to music mostly by streaming from your phone?

No, my data gets throttled after a couple of G each month (usually the 3rd or 4th day of the month). But I know my bandmates do it all the time. My wife streams Pandora form her phone (and her car connects to it automatically, too).

I'm a bit more than averagely paranoid (previous work experience) so you will never see me walking around with ear plug and a phone, 'snapping my fingers and shuffling my feet...'
I like to know what's going on around me and I'm a little deaf anyway. Love that situational awareness.
I like to listen to music in the car or behind my desk at home - usually on YouTube. And I'm always exploring, that's where I met Subway to Sally, Children of Bodom and Nightwish.
And like GMike I use YT to learn songs. Our bandleader is kind enough to hand out chord charts and video addresses when we learn new songs.

Talbot's comment brings up another interesting thing - I read an article recently than using only 1 earbud will have a more-rapid effect on one's hearing, because the person doing it will turn up the volume significantly more than a person using earbuds in both ears. And there is no question that near proximity of the transducer to the eardrum is bad in the long run.
And the 'one earbud thing' also shows that doing song mixes with too-significant stereo separation is not necessarily good, as that person will be missing everything on one side of the mix (assuming they haven't set their music playback to 'mono', which I doubt anyone bothers to do).

I hate anything in my ears, won't use those in-ear monitors. Those folks are going to have serious hearing damage over time. The only time I use ear plugs is on a plane when editing video.
I did find it interesting that Mexico leads the world in streaming from a phone. They must have a lot of connectivity
