Electric jam/open mic last night

I asked a few people to join me for a some songs last night - drummer and bass player and a singer.
Now I remember why I don't want to continue with the 'full band' thing. Drum kits are just too loud for small set-up areas/clubs/bars. You end up being loud all over to compensate. It was fun, but not what I want to do going forward.
With my current band, even when everyone's going at full song, I can still hear my acoustic guitar and vocals acoustically (not just through the PA )- that's the difference.

I like blaming the drummer for everything, but that isn't fair. I can dig it if you want to play acoustically, but actually the answer is to place larger places with a good sound system.

My band uses a cajon (keyboardist/lead singer plays it for half a dozen songs) - volume is not an issue with it. It seems that real drummers just don't like the feel of electric drums, the cymbals in particular.
