this is pretty cool. as good as the playing is....the video chops to have all this seamlessly synced up are pretty impressive. nice bass eye candy too.

i do wish there wasn't as much compression used.... esp for something viewed on youtube.

Right you are, Mike! Yeah, I'm a certified Guild-aholic.

In the gtr dept, I own a '75 D-50 (dreadnaught), a '66 Starfire II, and a '54 X-150 Savoy (archtop w one P-90)

Basswise, I've got a '67 Starfire II (the second one I've owned) that is just a killer.

That's a cool interview (read it before).....and an interesting piece of bass history with regards to how Alembic got involved in things.

it's funny...back in the '60's and even a little into the early '70's a lot of big name bass players used Starfires. For my money those era SF's blew the doors off the Gibson and Epiphone (semi) hollowbody basses.

I never did like Gibson basses and couldn't understand how Jack Bruce got such great sounds - but then, I never played the Violin version. Had an EB0 for a while but just couldn't get into it.

I did have a guild bass for a while, it was solid body and looked like a Les Paul. Didn't really care for it though. Seems like I always come back to P-bass.

I would love to try one of JCs Epiphone basses though.

not at all. i took that photo for an old buddy who's also a Guild fan. fear not...no children, small animals, or gtrs were hurt in the filming.

of course i have stands and use them regularly, but to your question...i've never stressed about scratches or minor dings (esp on 40 plus yr old instruments). as i see it, they're tools to be played and enjoyed.

i had a conversation w a drummer friend the other day and we both agreed that time spent polishing your instrument(s) is better spent polishing up ON your instrument.

funny how great players can transcend the instruments they play and sound good (and like themselves) on whatever equip they're using. the one that always amazed me was how good JB sounded on a FENDER VI!

huh...i'm curious what you didn't like about it. if it was straight up solid that was likely from the mid 70's or beyond when they went to the solid body and different pickups (Guild H/B's) than the earlier more coveted Hagstrom Bisonic p/u's.

I've never played one but always thought they look pretty badass. this was GUILD's first bass model that featured a long scale 34" neck.
