yep, saw at least a 5 spot in the tip jar so it counts as a gig.. :)

and whats neat we have access to 1200.00 a night gigs, yep.. our band leader has actually thumped Robert Plant on the forehead when his band opened for post-Zeppelin Plant

it just kept filling up with an audience as the night went on lasted 3 hours
feels nice to hear cheers and hand claps too after the numbers we were conjuring up..

Sorry, Dane, but was there an actual fee paid by the venue? A $5 bill in the tip jar? That's called 'seed money' - put in by the band to get others to tip. Unless you're getting paid by the venue (or promoter), its no different than busking.
Was this a jam or an audition?
(edited to add) I see from your other post this was an open mic/jam. Definitely does not count as a gig - even for the host - in my book. OMs and jams are great for networkingwith others, though.

Where would these $1200 gigs be? In order to be paid that kind of money (assuming as the headliner), you'd be looking at places holding at least 250 people (@ $10 cover charge). Definitely not in the corner of a bar with a pool table. What the guy did in the past does not equal anything NOW.

neither, it was billed as an open mic night.. but since we all could pull tunes from the past out of the hat it turned into a I just hope somebody there posts audio/video proving the crowd reaction was very positive..hand clapping cheering at ends of the tunes really brought a smile to my face.. we especially did a good job on Johnny B. Goode.. :)

the thumping Robert Plant on the forehead, was done at a festival where Sean's band Robert Plant's band and The Black Crowes were playing.. it had something to do with the lead vocalist for the Black Crowes being so wasted he could not perform and Robert Plant suggested something to Sean about the incident and earned him a thump on the forehead, something about wheeling the lead singer out to the stage on a two-wheel dolly/ hand :) cart

I would have stood up to play, but dammit, almost 62 year old people don't like to stand if not necessary, and when we started around 7ish there might have been 5-6 patrons, so I didn't see the need to stand ..but as the night wore on I will bet there were 35-40 people.after each tune the applause was getting louder and louder.. no sh*t... was the word getting around there was a shit-hot band playing at open mic? none of us have ever played together ever.. no rehearsals, etc. but I admit we were not tackling Brain Salad Surgery stuff either LOL.. :D

that's a pretty funny photo....it's like no one wants to look at the camera as if they're embarrased and don't want to be associated w what's going on!

i turned 61 a month ago and other than instrumental solo gigs i always stand up.... different strokes for different folks.

did not know there was going to be a camera, or even an audience to show up..I think I do remember seeing a flash of a camera way later in the night.. but it was best in my mind, at least, since we had never rehearsed or practiced on anything together to keep an eye on the other band people looking for cues? does that make sense to you?,, facing the other way you would never see the cues and body language that would suggest endings, chorus verse changes etc.. it was very impromptu, without a chart one..LMAO.. man. I hope Displaced Pianist would accept my apology, whenever I think of the word CHART I think of DP.. please DP don't hate me! LOL har har :D

only time I played slide guitar all night, and danged if I did not forget the metal slide even though it was set out beside the car keys and billfold, so I used Mr. Sears's plastic lighter, we were doing Mike Lomax's original tune here ..he is the bassist..

Why all the negativity to Dayne playing a gig? Why can't we be happy for a fellow musician doing what he loves?
I'm happy for you Dayne!

THANKS Mike.. it will depend on Sean as far as getting the band rehearsed and ready to move to Massachusetts.he has other bands he plays in and manages, I know he was really stoked last night, after the "gig" he was hugging me and putting his arm around me, I must have been in tune last night? LOL... heck, Cape Cod is full of wealthy "old money" families many of which made their fortunes in whaling when whale oil was a common item.. so it probably is true they pay much more for musicians services.. they can pay some bands in pizza here in Missouri, but not the case back east..LMAO :D
