Local bands I've seen recently that wowed me:
Counter Cosby - think King Crimson on acid
I Decay - fantastically tight heavy metal
The Universal Temple of Divine Power - Humble Pie meets The Black Crowes
Aquarius Void - Hammond B-3 meets heavy metal
Crackjaw - modern metal done right
The 2nd System - you should have seen their cover of Journey's "Seperate Ways"
Worth looking for.....

With all due respect to Detroit, Given the fact that The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Black Sabbath, Cream, The YardBirds, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Bad Company, Queen, Def Leppard, U2, Fleetwood Mac, not to mention all the great individual players who made up these bands all came from Great Britain, I would have to say that is the the true home of rock and roll

Actually all of those bands you mention were guys who were emulating blues players from the U.S. The British added their knack for lyrics and melody and made it huge. But it was cats like John Lee Hooker playing on the corner of Brush and 51st street who invented the stuff. The white boys just borrowed it and made lots of money. Iggy and the Stooges, the MC5, Bob Seeger, Mitch Ryder, Alice Cooper, The Amboy Dukes all called Detroit home. And there's more musicians here per capita than anywhere. And Kiss said it was "Detroit Rock City" so I think that says it all!!
