the initial post was posted in order to try and understand what it is or what it takes to write a tune that would actually sell and be liked, but I am coming to the conclusion popularity in the music entertainment business and also success has nothing to do with talents or abilities, it just boils down to if you have a star quality and beauty that the admirers will go wild over and buy your concert tickets and music streams based on appearance and nothing else.. :)

I played for a while with five musicians in LA who were all doing different things but enjoyed playing together.

The guy on keys was a friend of mine who got further up the ladder than I did, identified a phenomenon he called "sparkle." He was writing songs for major players like Barry White but he told me he'd never be a star since he didn't sparkle.

Instinctively, we both turned and looked at the drummer. That guy sparkled like crazy. English, white shoes, dressed to the nines, beautiful girlfriend and talented. We decided to murder him and bury him in the basement but something must have tipped him off and he scarpered.

There might be something else:

I watched a video or two about demon magicians and found it very interesting. Amazing things were done that could not have been done by humans on video. There is a series and I watched all of them. In one the narrator mentioned demon musicians who made a bargain with the devil to be great. Some of it comes out in the Elvis videos if you believe them. I certainly am aware that these things happen. In one of the demon musicians it tells (from close friends and associates) how one of the greatest blues players that ever lived couldn't play a lick on his guitar. It was that way for years. Then one night he came to them as said listen to this. They said it was the best playing they ever heard... and that overnight.

interesting points Slacker, I have read similar stories, one account, such as in the Led Zeppelin book "Hammer Of The Gods" authored by Stephen Davis, in which I recall Led Zeppelin all signed some sort of blood pact with Satan to acquire wealth, fame and popularity, only John Paul Jones did not sign in blood.. maybe it has to do with a musician having to be a family member of the bloodlines associated with the 13 Illuminati bloodline families.. the Freemans, Bundy's Collins, Russell etc.

I remember a phenomenon as I recall a musician needing to have the "chico marks" and you were then marked for celebrity status and the wealth associated with celebrity.. some interesting stuff at vigilant citizen regarding the hierarchy of the music industry, who is allowed in, who is selected and groomed for success, and you do not really need to do a minor pentatonic scale at blazing speed to be let in the inner circle of the big time success crowd..

Probably because John Paul was already signed up and committed, as he is still actively a satanist. Have you seen his work with Diamanda Galas?

Lots of english rockers were into Alistair Crowley. It was the "cool" thing for a while, but JPJ was/is a devout follower of satan.

I remember an interview with the bassist of Black Sabbath where he spoke about dabbling in black magic, then the band makes a pact to glorify satan and gets famous almost instantly.

Some of that is the shock factor. Rock music has always been about rebellion from parents, from authority, from God. The most extreme "rebels" are always at the forefront of rock music so every rock band of the 60s/70s was trying to out-shock everyone else, ala Alice Cooper or the The Tubes.

So I don't know that satanism was the root cause of success for them, as much as doing something extreme to be noticed was.
