from March 2016,
Mike you replied to me, when I commented the use of recorders in the intro section of Stairway To Heaven, that it was a mellotron

thanks planetguy!.. really new to this recording thing.. but I think finally realizing how important the bass line is in a tune was key, writing a bass line either first or second in the recording process is what has helped me improve, (I think I've improved?).. but, there are two tunes that I wrote the last few days, that are on my external hard drive that will never be let out of their prison cell. .. jook would probably love them cause of their "weirdness" but they are bad boys and need to be punished..

well, that's all well and good but sometimes when i'm in a rut i'll start off w a different choice of instrument to lay down first or write with. it can be a fun challenge and force you out of tried and true moves and habits.

god, now you got me thinkin' about how many recorders I have on hand?, I wonder how many I could dig up out of the inventory pile?.. I think one of the most beautiful parts of Stairway To Heaven are those recorders harmonizing on the intro..what you think? mand that has got to be some of the best sounding instrumentation on that tune... who did they hire to play those?..I know Plant ploayed some mean harmonica on the brown bomber? or maybe it was the first album? Page tried all sorts of distance miking and such, and man it was good sounding..

i guess i always assumed that was JPJ playing the recorder.
grace slick used to do some tasteful things on recorder. nothing "virtuoso" by any means, but it's a nice color she would occasionally add.
two examples here:

The recorders/flutes on StH are played on a Mellotron. Listen carefully, you can hear the tape (that's how Mellotrons read the samples) warble.

ahhhh.. the principles of harmony.. two or three parts moving in the same direction is called similar motion two parts moving in different directions is calledcontrary motion and one part moving while the other stays at the same pitch is called oblique motion.some of the rules of traditional harmony you are likely to encounter are as follows: NO TWO PARTS are allowed to move in "consecutive" fifths or octaves ..and I won't even get stared on "hidden" fifths or octaves.. these occur when two parts move in similar motion (up or down together) to arrive at a fifth or octave.. it is permissible only when the uppervoice moves by no more than a single step..

you did not point out the time range on Royal Court in question? (ex. 45 sec. - 1 min. 5 sec. ) but I will bet the two chords you are speaking of is the one chord with the notes F# A B C# which to my understanding is either a Bm9 WITHOUT THE FLATTED third, or a polychord possibly could be written as F#m/B
