next pass around idea

I'm not really all that crazy about what i laid on RG's great "jazz drums for Planetguy" track.

So, I'm wondering if there's any interest in this....

It IS a jazz feel....but i was thinking we could keep things simple and so accessible to all who want to participate. So, if there's any interest, how's about i lay down a walking bass line on a major and/or minor blues as a foundation for others to dance on?

If anyone's up for this.....what's the preference. major? minor? one of each? preferred keys?

did you listen to my idea? it's on my BM player but really low-infidelity.. schmeddy liked it.. I was intentionally leaving a lot of space , since RG mentioned he was hearing a walking bass line as he was performing it.. maybe I could delete most of my parts, but it would force me to have to learn a whole new recodring software program, and I am not looking forward to that, was using the Tascan DR-o5 hence low fidelity, but it is a musical jazz guitar idea? it might completely stink though? :D

let me know if you likes bits-n-pieces of it? think it is 5:59 long? you could just give time samples like I hate 1:48-2:43 or I like 3:03-4:21 as example, or just say the whole thing sucks or is satisfactory? it would give us some sort of basis for re-working it? 8)

Try a minor blues in Bb with maybe a Stormy Monday sorta jazz twist and lets see what shakes out. I might have something for ya.

Dayne, nice chord voicings. It's pretty freeform guitar and we still need to develop a groove that others can build on. The original track also got overloaded in your bounce. Let's see if Planet can lay a nice foundational groove and we will explore it a bit.

Great idea Dave! I might as well get the manual out on the Ableton Lite 9.0 and start spending the days needed to get somewhat acquainted with it.. that DR-05 had an automatic level align control but it seemed to be not working, it faded out the extra high DB gains on the waveform too much, still like it but better put it away and use it for ideas I want to save only..

Protip: Record analog tape with peaks at 0db. Record digital with peaks at -12db avoiding any possible clipping or overload like the plague. Then just trust your ears on the final mix. :D

I started to listen to it Dane but you had the drum signal uncompressed and the freakin' kick was popping my speakers!! You don't have a compressor patch?? I'd listen to it if it was compressed a tad,

DAY: 1 HOUR :4 jook, if you only knew how troubling it is for me to have to learn things I hate learning...

the "popping" you heard was from my inferior method of trying to record music without having to learn a new software recording format: in 4 hours I have managed this but still can't hear RG's exquisite drumming, but I have an envelope waveform now, but no audio (yet)

jook, there probably won't be a problem with compression or popping drums with getting back to proper recording techniques using my puter Toneport UX2 and Ableton Live Lite 9.0 w/ Gear Box.. like I was using experimenting with last year at about the time you were liking my off the wall stuff like Orlando Lake #31, which by the way is still not finished but an "idea" along with the others, it was about the time you guys said to try soundcloud instead of using that virus infested yourlisten.com . but I switched fro a Windows XP computer to a new computer using Windows 7 in which the recording software I was using was now obsolete and un-usable, had to do an upgrade to Ableton Live Lite 9.0 from the Line 6 edition software which is basically like playing in standard tuning and now having to learn crossnote/C7 tuning you'd use on pedal steel.. etc. . bought the Tascam DR-05 recently to record band practices, but Jesse moved away and now stuck with a gadget I wanted to get my money's worth out of, so foolishly I thought I could get it to make recordings that sounded like made at The Record Plant, but boy was I wrong..

don't ya just love it, now after running Line 6 Monkey updater my drivers need updated 9.6mb file..version 4.2.7.6 drivers are installedand now inoperative LOL..what a joke! don't ya just love recording software that continually needs "updated" until it's obsolete and you now have to go out and buy $600.00 worth of more gear / software...luv them! :D
every productive hour taken away from actual work, that put's food on the table, is an hour I am investing in the hope PlanetGuy is laying down a good foundation, and the faith I have in my intellect to master this software, and be a fair operator at it..I know I can do it, but can I afford to? taking food away from the table? :o

OK...i just recorded a bass line w Cm jazz blues changes.

I just did this one take and not crazy about it, so no one's gonna hurt my feelings if it doesn't make the grade and you want me to take another shot...

...and i played a little melody up front when the bass enters. It seemed a good idea at the time but now i'm not so sure!

Whoever wants to come up w a head (melody) for this, you can either double up the bass melody, or after it completes it's once around and starts walking, you can then play your head there.

i'll also record a Major blues in Bb...that's the key Cajundaddy requested.

if anyone likes this version and wants to work with it.....here's the lay of the land for what's going on:

it's basically a straightup C minor blues w a Dm7b5 G7 turnaround.

at around 1:58 i play an Eb7 D7 Db7 Cm turnaround 8 times that takes things up to about 2:22

the drums go by themselves (i think we should leave that as just drums!)

then we're back to our blues progression for a few more times around

and after the last time around at around 3:58 i repeat the Dm7b5 G7 a few times.....then i play my head again at 4:09

4:24 to end is just vamping on Cm7
