Can't wait to hear it. Tuned like a violin or a bass guitar?

first off...congrats on the new family member!

i'm looking forward to hearing some recordings with it and i'm confident that you won't subject us all to anything that suffers from horrible intonation. :D

that pickup is pretty much the same as the Fishman BP-100....a pickup that a lot of bassplayers use for it's affordability and ease of installation.

i used to have one on my old KAY. i didn't care for it at all. those piezo type p/us sound kind of brittle and thin, don't have a lot of low end, and you can't get much volume on them before they start feeding back. they do sound considerably better when used w a preamp. I used a Fishman preamp a buddy gave me that did improve things but still..that setup never really got my ankles hard.

after i had enough of that, i picked up a Pierre Josephs magnetic pickup and that is truly the bee's knees! of course you have to use steel strings w it but that's pretty much my first choice anyhow... so, no big whup there.

it looks like your p/u is mounted to that metal bridge..is that right? if so i would expect that might only add to the thinness and brittle tone those piezos produce on uprights. you might do better moving them to under the feet of the bridge.

which brings up a question. it appears the feet of the bridge have little rubber or plastic cups over the ends of the screws and i would think that any benefits in volume from the brdg being metal would be negated by having the points that it couples w the top made of deadening material like rubber or plastic, no?

luckily for me, my KAY C-1 is from 1938, and so...not being hampered by the shackles of modern technology, not only does it make an excellent sammich... it also cooks a mean bowl of pasta!

well, i'm not poo-poohing the bridge or what it might do for volume/sustain. i certainly would expct that from an aluminum brdg!

it could yield a tone that's just enough different to give you a unique and personal signature sound!

but as for sustain...i remember back in the early 70's when the market for aftermarket parts for modifying basses and gtrs was taking off.....and all these products like brass nuts, Fat Fingers, and BADASS brdgs were popping up to increase sustain! i always thought was a little goofy. i mean, how much sustain do you really need on a bass...that you're not already getting from a decent and well set up P or J bass?

keep in mind too, that one of the big things that distinguishes an upright from a solid body elec bass is the lack of sustain ( that quicker decay).

i sure would be interested in hearing this beast. get busy and get us an unadorned recording soon, willya!

Forget my request for fuzz bass. If you feel any inclination to work on that number I sent you, I want you to use the Bionic Bass! 8)

Congratulations. There are few joys equal to buying a new bass!
