Leon Russell, piano player with Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs and Englishmen, member of the "wrecking crew" studio group and solo artist, is dead at the age of 74. Leon Will be missed, he wrote one of my favorite ballads, "Song For You" which has been covered by a n umber of musicians. He recorded 35 albums, was among the musicians known as the wrecking crew in LA who did the tracks for numerous artists, among them Jan and Dean, the Monkees, the Byrds and Beach Boys.

aw, man...that really is some sad news. LR was truly one of the greats. I can't believe he was only 74 as he's appeared much older for quite some time due to his poor health. R.I.P.

That, and the white-gray hair made him look older even when he was still young.

I think my favorite song of his would be "Masquerade"

Agreed, I love his version of "This Masquerade"...PJAZZ used to do that one.

He's written so many great tunes....my fave is probably "Stranger In a Strange Land"....you hear those opening chords and then that opening moan of his and you know we're off to church!
