OK...i just dumped off the tune and i'm gonna try to come up w a a cpl of versions w bass lines that aren't too busy that will leave some room for others to overdub their stuff.

question....the synth pad mostly suggests a Dm tonality but later on in the tune i'm hearing some FMaj stuff played or implied. I think it might work best if i just run w Dm all the way thru.

You cool w that, RG?

i'm gonna try to lay down a cpl of takes w different bass lines that i think are pretty much in the style/genre of what RG laid down.....

maybe it'd be kinda cool to color withIN the lines on this one?

and this IS RG's deal.

but i suggested the idea of a "pass around" as i thought it'd be a nice solidarity project to prove that despite our differences we can still all hang together.

i'd like to see that happen w this.

but that doesn't mean that (w RG's approval).....we all couldn't take his drum trk and each do our thing from the ground up.

You are correct, the key change is a bit tricky cause the drum pattern suggests a flash back to back beats later in the track due to a heavy dose of purple haze or "Jooks psychedelic color" that causes a butterfly experience explosion in the subtle influence due to the lack of ambience texture.

In other words......I'm just a drummer, what the hell do I know.

go for the gold :D

ah...the "butterfly experience explosion" !!!! THAT explains it.

very nice playing BTW. 8)

and now after using an extra strength industrial sized Q tip to clean the $hit out of my ears i hear this as being in the key of E!

DOH!

Ah, c'mon Mark. You play off what you hear, yes? We all hear things differently.
No different than political views, yes?? It will be VERY minimal as to leave space for others!!

most true. but sometimes, i do try to reign myself in.....i mean i can HEAR all kinds of things w that....a Jaco bass line... a mando part ....i was even messing around w a bluegrass 5 string banjo thing that i heard but can't quite pull off(yet).

and as much fun as it IS to go off in those creative directions...sometimes i find the challenge of coloring WITHIN the lines to be equally fun AND equally challenging as well.

At some point for me.... going the NON obvious route.... BECOMES obvious! 8)

but i'm not trying to set down any rules or guidelines here.....afterall this IS about everyone bringing THEIR own thing to the table! 8)

I'll see where this goes and see if I can go last. Happy to add synth or acoustic guitar or something if the guitars get too stacked up first. Great idea Mark. Looks like your brain didn't get frozen solid at that outdoor gig.

Why not give Schmeddy first dibs since RG laid this down for him?
Then everyone can take Schmeddy's lead as to what to play?

Then we could take the same drum track (w/ RG's permission, of course) and use it like your chord progression projects and see how many different tunes we could pull from it?

Just a suggestion........... :)
Either way, I'm game but I want Schmeddy to kick in before me. :P
Where's my cigar, Schmeddy??? And I'm not talking Swisher Sweets!!! Dominican would be nice.

I'm probably shut down for a while, besides my kooky editing of our garage jams. But thanks for thinking of me. Not too much of an alpha dog on these types of things. I'd rather follow what you guys lay down.
