I've been in a creative mode the last few months, - 45 yrs guitar playing time,, ( I'm a LATE bloomer:) and need to protect the new riffs and songs from theft.
Can I do this free?
Any ideas? Best format? I use a digital Nikon camera to record the audio/video, so its a MOV format.
Maybe I can convert it to something easier for folks to open?

Love to do short kewl intros for car/ truck etc commercials.

Many people will tell you that by posting songs from your computer online, you have 'date stamped' them and that will protect them. Others still believe you can mail a copy to yourself (signed receipt) that you don't open, and the postmark date protects you.
This may work in other countries, but in the good ole USA, no court case has ever been won with just those proofs of ownership.
Like Jook says, registering your copyright with the US office: http://www.copyright.gov/ is the only legal way to do it. One song or a whole CD's worth, its the same cost.

to invest that kind of money into tunes suggests you had better have good tunes in the 1st place.. I would rather take my chances winning in court rather than shelling out that kind of bread,.. like buying a lotto ticket

If you really think your songs are worth stealing, its a minimal investment.
