No twitter or other SM for me (no S&M either) for me.

We have a Planet Jazz FB page and I have one under my alias "Argus Narr" that are used solely to pimp gigs and beat the bushes for gigs.

I DO have a website to push my stuff and to fill people in on who I am.
I have a Google+ account but it ain't much.
Bottom line- REAL MUSICIANS DON'T HAVE TIME FOR A LOT OF SOCIAL MEDIA BESIDES PROMOTION.
How you gonna write a tune or record w/ your face stuck in a phone, ehhh???

JOOK--for once, I'm totally w/ you! Likewise, have never used adboo, er facebook, have never twatted, don't own a smartphone (or even a cellphone), have google+ only because it was imposed on me (gmail acct.)--have never even sent a text...not a single one. I've been rear-ended twice, though, by gals who were doing exactly that.

I've been told I'm so out-of-touch I'm missing everything (ironically, many of these same folks don't have a clue what's going on in the election--imagine that); Greg the guitarist calls me "Fred Flintstone." But I'm far better informed re: current events than most of my friends, have time to read books (remember those?), play piano at my leisure and I've never run into a post or wall while playing pokemon on my mobile device (according to a segment on PBS Newshour, it happens far more than most folks realize).

The way I see it, if you can't live w/o SM, maybe you should get out and meet some real folks. Y'know, the ones who are actually in control of their lives and are doing real things. Or you can read about them secondhand on SM--assuming your shortened attn. span will allow it.

I have not been on Facebook that long, only joined because I heard from a few reliable real human beings I chat with at live auctions that facebook was the next big thing when it comes to buy& sell.. facebook sellers/yard sales/ swap meet groups to join and pay less fees than feebay..well, I did not find them, they are there , but better? that is debatable.. but, I wound up getting hooked on the silly banners that fly by, and can spend hours laughing with myself reading them ...
:D ha ha ..LOL :D

Anything (including social media) is what YOU make of it. Promotion of gigs, albums, selling/buying gear - all can be done easily and with a minimum amount of time. Do you really play/involve yourself with music 14 hours a day (allowing time for sleeping, eating and bodily functions)? If so, more power to you, but to me music would get stale if that's all I did.

I'd like to see what Eve means by "music people" getting dumber online, as opposed to all people in general - specially younger people who no longer have to learn something when they can google it on their phones in 30 seconds.

People are getting dumber online, offline, in public and in private.

It's a direct result of the liberal take-over at the Dept of Education in the 70s/80s.

What's worse are those who think they are wise because they have a piece of paper in a frame on the wall. Ignorance and arrogance produce the same result: stupidity.

I recently had an exchange with a formerly friendly guy on a music forum that ended with him telling me to go kill myself. What was his beef with me? I asked him if it was really news that people make dumb comments on the internet (after he complained about that). So that's where we're at. People make dumb comments on the internet. If you disagree with me, go kill yourself.

The dummies are out there, in full force. I've been trolling Trump supporters on Facebook feeds for Beitbart and Media Research Center for over a year and they're quite scary. Other side as well. People believe what they want and play big brave bully from behind that keyboard whenever anyone dares to question any of it.

Having a great day, actually. I'm discussing what I see to be the factual reasons behind the topic's title. You disagree? Go ahead and offer your reasons why, but stop being a liberal fascist who only tells others to shut up when you don't like what they are saying.

Don't tell me to shut up and I won't mention how stupidity reigns even here. It is entirely on-topic and provably TRUE that American kids are getting dumber compared to other nations, and my life experience says that is the full & direct result of NEA indoctrination and social expermentation in place of actual learning and education. There are University level kids in America being taught how to be offended at micro-aggressions who can't figure interest on a mortgage.

Maybe you don't understand that I think Bush was a liberal on every issue except Iraq/Afghanistan? I'm not speaking to the issues as a political partisan of any stripe. The "progressives" have killed whatever integrity was left in either party.

There is a reason why people are more stupid today than they were only 40 years ago. There is a reason why wages have diminished and Europe/Asia are rising, while our kids fall in every category we used to own without effort.

You disagree? Go ahead and explain why...but don't try to squelch the truth with an insult. You know I love ya, but I will push back.
